    Contemplating a G19 - Gen 3 or Gen 4?

I've really come to like my G34 that I shoot in IDPA, and I am thinking of acquiring a 19 as a carry gun.

Now for the big question - do I get a Gen 3 (like my 34), or get a Gen 4? The price difference is immaterial, but I am a bit concerned about the reports of spring problems with the Gen 4 guns.

My inclination is to get a Gen 3, then put the saem disconnector I have in the 34 in it, so the triggers are pretty similar.

Anyone have any thoughts to offer?

Well for what its worth, I had the choice between the two and took home the Gen 3. No regrets from me..

I recently went shopping for another G23, and compared the 3rd and 4th Generations side by side.

I just didn't see where the Gen 4 was any better, and I already knew what I was getting with the Gen 3.

Seems like a lot of people are changing the springs in the Gen 4s to make them more Gen 3-like

I'm sticking with the Gen 3, until they make a single stack

I vote Gen 3 for proven reliability/performance and then you can modify as YOU like. Gen 3 owner here...JMO

Get the Gen 3. The Gen 4 has had some issues that even Glock is admitting.

I have a G19 gen4 and so far through the first 300 rounds no problem at all, I will say I do like the grip stippling better than previous Glocks.

I'm hard to change and I likely won't own a Gen4 gun until there are no more production Gen3 guns.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

Your plan to get the Gen3 & mod the trigger is what I would do. I trust this pistol with my life and so will you.

I had a choice between the two at the same price. I chose the Gen4 simply because if I didn't like it I knew I'd able to trade straight up for a Gen3.

I've put about 200 rounds through the Gen4 Glock 19 and I love it so far. No malfunctions.

The smaller grip makes a difference to me and I really like the new texture.

Mine came with the 04 dual recoil spring. I've heard that the problems people were experiencing were with the 03 dual recoil spring.

    If I had a Gen3 already I don't think I would "upgrade".
Nor would I have gotten the Gen4 if it hadn't been the same price as the Gen3.

In regards to the trigger.... Mine seems heavier than a Gen3. It could be just because it's new, but I don't know. The break is very crisp.

First off, handle both. You may or may not care for the RTF. You may find the Gen 4 backstrap setup fits you better. It did for me (no additional backstrap). Unless you're a leftie, the reversible mag release is a non-issue.

As for reliability, let's get down to brass tacks:

How many out there own or have owned the Gen 4 and had feeding issues?

How many out there own or have owned the Gen 4 and had no issues?

Matt doesn't need any hearsay or "I heard/read/my buddy told me"s. Who out there is having this Gen 4 reliability problem.

You also need to talk to people that have BOTH. People who just have the Gen3s are gonna tell you the Gen3s are better. People who just have the Gen4s are gonna tell you the Gen4s are better.

People who own both will be able to give an unbiased opinion based on EXPERIENCE.

I vote gen 3, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Finding a gen 3 19 or 26 is a tall order in my neck of the woods is a tall order right now.
