Congrats!! On your Colt Defender purchase. It's my favorite Concealed carry pistol. I keep mine loaded with Speer 200gr Gold Dots.

I think you two will be very happy. I've never, ever, had a problem with mine in 10 years. It has digested every kind of ammo I've ran through it; even that stupid Aquila .45 IQ crap back in the early 2000's. (I just had to test fire it into a ballistic vest several times to disprove claims it would defeat body armor for our agency, which it did NOT.) I had Coal Creek Armory upgrade it last summer with a black coating, some Straight 8 sights, etc. The only complaint I had about it were the extremely sharp edges. It was a "biter", let me tell you. Coal Creek knocked the edges off for me as well. Made a great gun an excellent gun. I'm not a Colt fanboy, but it is probably the only gun I own that I will never part with.

Defender mods
Congratulations on your new Colt Defender. I hope you will like it as much as I like mine. There are many things you can do to modify it to your liking. I have done a number of modifications on mine, including:
1. Dehorned the slide to get rid of the very sharp edges.
2. Installed a Wilson drop in beavertail safety, allowing a higher grip.
3. Installed a McCormick aluminum trigger.
4. Installed a steel checkered mainspring housing for a better grip.
5. Installed thin Alumagrips to slim the gun slightly.
6. Added 7 round Wilson magazines for better feeding.
7. Bought a Kramer horsehide belt scabbard holster.

I can't improve much on what has been said above. I am extremely happy with my Defender, and as a .45 guy, it is my only true concealed carry choice. I did try the Glock, and as you can see, for me the choice of the Defender was an easy one.

Congrats !
I have a 1st year production Colt OM,I purchased new back in '85 or so. Had alot of work done on it,stuff you shouldn't need to do with a new pistol today. I love it and carry it to the exclusion of my Series 70 Gov't,which is a "safe queen". Good luck with it and let us know how you make out.

I'm so jealous, I've wanted a defender for a while now just don't have the funds atm.
Vermont does not issue Permit/Licenses to Carry a Concealed firearm. Vermont allows anyone
who can legally own a firearm to carry it concealed without a permit of any kind.

My goal is to buy a Colt Defender before December 31's to honor it's 100 anniversary. (It might take me 10 months to save up for one). LOL. It's a beautiful weapon

I like the Defender, but a litle to heavy for me. I do LOVE the Colt's in general and have a Gov't Model .380 and a Pocket Nine that has been a constant companion for some time now.
I still think that Colt is the best ever made, and I wish they would get back into the revolver buisness.
