Because the slimness of the weapon makes it easy to conceal.

A good single action trigger on one is hard to beat with any other style trigger.

They tend to be inherently accurate for a lot of folks, and point naturally.

It's the original .45ACP combat pistol.

Tons of aftermarket support and a huge amount of history behind it.

    Easily and infinitely customizable.
Saved a ton of American GI's.
    Great after-market support.
Won a lot of US War battles.
Generally speaking, just about any model shoots great.

It has a great trigger that helps cover up people's lack of proper trigger manipulation.

    Nostalgia.

I kinda love it too; but it would never be my carry weapon, I have also never understood why his other design (B HI_POWER) was not more popular than the 1911 as it is a far better gun..

Everything stated above is true. But I still can't put my finger on it. Maybe because it protected my Dad's family when he was little. Maybe because it kept my uncles safe while they fought wars. Maybe because it was the first pistol that I was issued. I guess it's just 'family' to me.

    That's great!

I think that its because its the first pistol I ever bought with my own money. A guy down the street had an old GI .45 and he sold it to me for $150 bucks. I was fifteen at the time and he made my mom sign off that she was okay with it. I shot the heck out of that .45.

While I have carried many different pistols over the years, I always come back to the 1911. Its accurate, easy to conceal, fits my hand very well and IMHO just awesome!
