They told me they thought they were different, but didn't know for sure. They said I had to break off the front stem on the Mil-spec to find out if it is a wide stem or thin stem.

I have to call up a gunsmith and find out. I was hoping I could order the sights and drop them off at the gunsmiths, but now I have to take a trip there and find out before I order them.

    Anyone know for sure?

Since Brownell's has a fantastic return policy why not just order both front sights and just have your smith give you back the one he does not use. That might save you a bit of hassle.
Brownell's will refund you no problem.
They do it all the time.

    Called Novak............

Novak said,"all of our front sights are dove-tail, so it won't matter".

    End of story.

On the Colt, you want the .185".

.185 on the Colt and go with the .195 for the MilSpec.

Also bear in mind that you will have to have dovetails cut on the front and the back of both of the slides to get them installed. You might check the novaksights.com website or call them. They will install them and cut the dovetails if you send them just the slide. They can also advise you on he right height, but you have that information now anyway. If you knoe a good gunsmith ;) then he can do if for you as well.

Have you verified that your current (carry) ammo is hitting poa/poi with your current sights and translated that sight height over to the novaks? my .02
