I had an AMT 45 several years ago and it is one of very few guns I have traded off and was glad to get rid of it. The true test will be in the market place.

It appears that the gen II Back Up has a [redesigned] slide that has been lengthened almost flush to the barrel muzzle. Barrel length appears unchanged.

Back in the day - they had the heaviest trigger pull available to man!

They did make good paper weights though

And...if the slide and barrel are longer on the newer models then those can't be vintage parts. I'm just sayin'
when galena industries moved to sturgis SD, they extended the slides to become more flush with the barrel. these are parts made by galena, just assembled and "edited" by high standard.

here is an auction of a galena amt backup made in SD.

i didn't have to "fluff and buff" mine. did you have any problems with yours? the only major issues i had were magazine, ammunition, and correct handling of the firearm. once the mag was fixed, and i learned the "correct" method of firing it, the firearm now performs flawlessly.

Here's a bunch of close-up photos of a vintage AMT Back Up 45 taken in B&W. Be sure to check out the last two photos taken from the business end of the Piece. I think they're pretty cool,...and quite menacing. :)

Yes, that .45 bore looks comparatively huge on a handgun that small.

Wow. The Glock 26 is actually a tad larger than the Back Up 45. I carried [AIWB] a G26 for about a year and that weapon was pretty small.

I had made the mistake of buying a "Backup 380" about 18 years ago. If you wanted to hit the broad side of a barn with it, you were better off throwing the gun at it. What a POS!

I would take the G26 any day over anything AMT makes.

Think of all the money you would save on ammo. Gotta always think of the bright-side.
