Although no one here that knows me would say that I am a staunch supporter of the 1911 platform, I feel that it is a ludicrous and pointless arguement to base the choice on a 50,000 round test.

There are many other characteristics to the choice of a personal SD firearm that are much more relevant. If the characteristics of my sixgun allow me to hit first and decisivley with the first shot, a 50,000 round gun in the deceaseds hand is only good for a grave marker.

    I'm an old guy.

I like Colt Government Models, Colt (LW) Commanders, and pinned barrel S&W revolvers. Ruger Security Six series are very good as well. A big homely, but so is a good dog. Ruger Single Actions (three screw, preferably) are simply a delight.

    However, I must admit I finally - on purpose - bought a fancy 9x19 double action semi-automatic. I recently obtained a S&W Model 39-2!

I'm planning on getting an H&K USP Compact in .40 S&W (Variant 1) for utilitarian purposes.

But I'm an old guy at heart. Hence my comment - and I said it first - "If God had intended semi-automatic handguns to be double action and plastic, He'd have had John Moses Browning design it that way in the first place!"

It must be the Infantry in me but I like lightweight stuff. I think your list is a good one mine is slightly different but it looks like a very well-rounded list and I won't carry .380s either.
    Glock 36, 30SF, 31, 32, 21 Gen4 - Carry guns
Ruger Mini-14 and Remington 870 by the bed both wearing Surefire lights.
Always carry a knife-they are handy to have
Always carry a reload-You probably won't need it but it is good insurance .

Guess I'll chime in here a little late. Here are a few of my favorite things:

Ruger MkII .22 - The most uncannily accurate handgun I've ever held. No beer can is safe within 100 yards.
Beretta M84W - Classic good looks, great craftsmanship, and a bit ahead of it's time with 13+1 capacity.
SIG P232 - Great feel, reliability, and accuracy, and tops in "cool factor". Beats out the PPK IMHO.
Colt Detective Special - One of those guns that's just timeless. Wish I still had the one I sold 30 years ago.
Ruger P85 - Yeh, it's bulky for a 9mm, but really well made, reliable, and a lot of fun to shoot.
Colt Python - If you've ever had one, no further comment necessary.
Colt 1911 (mine's a Combat Commander) - Kinda like a Harley: "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand". (And I hate that cliche, BTW).
Kahr CW45 - I guess this is the only (comparatively) new design on my list. Sure is a sweet, shootable, concealable CCW!
Dan Wesson .44 Mag - Said by some to be the most accurate revolver ever made, and with the ported barrel, it's a dream to shoot. And what's not to love about 8" of .44 Mag???

    Just my $.02

    Regards,
    Jim

It is all fun and games until your humping in Indian country with a 40 ounce pistol strapped to your thigh. I like light but I also want big bullets.
