comes down to glocks and 1911s
Any conversation or suggestion on a semi-auto carry gun for sd tends to include glocks and 1911s. Everyone has their preferences, but say what you want about those other options, these two are almost always in the mix.
Neither is always the best solution, but they are almost always a consideration.

Both are proven platforms and widely popular...and they are for a reason. Like you say, they're usually in the running. Seems like a snubnosed revolver is always in the discussion somewhere too.

Also, Glocks and 1911's are the preferred gun choices by shooters for competition shooting. They are proven, reliable and high quality weapons. Nonetheless, I don't own a Glock or a 1911...yet.

They have something in common that makes them easier to learn; constant trigger pulls.

Ruger Mini-14 and Remington 870 by the bed both wearing Surefire lights.
Always carry a knife-they are handy to have
Always carry a reload-You probably won't need it but it is good insurance .

Having shot a few Glocks the only way I would accept one is if I was given one, then I would use it as a trade for a 1911. Nothing against Glocks but I do not like the trigger, the ergonomics or just the way it feels in my hand.

I shoot glocks well enough, carried a 23 or a 27 for a time. Until a Bad situation with an ex-brother-in-law came up. Instantly went to carrying a couple 1911's, never looked back. When I felt my most threatened, I returned to the best. Automatically

I've owned and carried Glocks, H&K and 1911s. I love the 1911 platform but could never find one that didn't have a "hic-up" at least once every couple of hundred rounds (stove pipe etc). That failure rate wasn't acceptable to me for CCW so I always reverted back to my Glock or H&K because both of those were completely 100% reliable (just not as sexy)!

I'm fine with the trigger, but it is definately different. When I switch between Glocks and 1911's at the range, it usually takes me a magazine to get zero'ed in again. I love 'em all.

I have a deep love for them both!!! and I also have a "few of them" and in the end I carry glocks mainly. here is why:
Glock VS 1911 in accuaracy the 1911 wins for me Glock close second
Glock VS 1911 in overall feel and trigger 1911 wins again Glock not bad
Glock VS 1911 in comfort to carry Glock wins 1911 just doesn't fee comfy "probably cuz I am bigger"
Glock VS 1911 in capacity Glock wins 1911 not close.
I guess the way I look at it is the glock is always a winner or a close second and the 1911 is either the winner or its not very good compaired. But in the end I have more 1911's than glocks cuz I only need so many glocks and you can never have enough 1911's.

I have both (1911 and Glocks) but carry Glocks for CCW. No issues, put finger in the trigger and pull to the rear and will go bang. Most others you gotta flip a lever and the trigger pull is the same the next time.... I rest my case. I also shoot revolvers that do the same. I do not own any DeCockerguns.
