The P250 fs 9mm 'Commander' is here! And a pleasant surprise!

I took a full size medium grip frame ($39.95-free shipping) and cut it down to the compact size. This is almost the same proportions as the 1911 Commander to the government model.

    The 'Commander':
    full size medium grip
    17 rd magazine
    3/4" shorter slide and barrel

It's not quite finished; I need to do some slide matching contouring at the front of the frame and do a fill in at the front of the frame. I may shorten the frame just a bit more. Thought it'd be a good idea to shoot it before going any further.

Here's the surprise, well for me at least, the fs slide works too!!!

And just for reference a full-size slide on a full-size frame.

Well, now I have an excuse to go shooting.

Good job Tangle. That's going to be one heckova tight and useful carry gun.
I'm happy that you're having a much better time with your SIG than I'm having with the Colt Series 70 from Hell that I'm still playing around with.

Thanks guys - I am eager to do some shooting with it!

    QKShooter,
As we both know, building 1911s can be a real challenge sometimes, especially when you get one that seems to have a mind of its own. You'll get it - you always do!

It's a lot easier cutting plastic, everything went pretty smoothly with the P250 mod. THEN, I just couldn't leave well enough alone. I had it as shown in the pics and just had to blend the end of the frame to the slide - it looked better the other way. Won't effect function; I just don't like it as well.

Anyway, maybe I can get to the range tomorrow and see how it shoots.

I think I'm gonna like the shorter barrel for carry; that full size is pretty long to conceal. Although its just a matter of swapping slides to go from fs to 'commander' size, so that's an interesting option too, but I think that shorter barrel is gonna become a favorite.

And, here's a no-mod twist. Just take the compact slide off the compact and install the full-size slide. The dust cover on the slide is long enough to overlap the compact frame:

I like the looks of the full size slide on the compact frame. Looks kind of 1911 ish.

Those of us who struggle field stripping and assembling a 1911 really don't like you. Nice job!

A picture is worth a 1000 words, this is what I did with the trigger, and this is not especially good for me with the P250.

The misses were mental let down, but that isn't the fault of the gun or the trigger.

I was kinda sluggish today and almost didn't go, but couldn't resist. These are the 26 - 50th shots out of 50 rounds. Notice the group opening up from the 1st target to the 4th. realized I needed to re-focus and then I shot the 5th target and it was a little better, but still off a bit.

On a good day, I can do this with the trigger. Still 7 yds, still off-hand 'I' stance:
