    Unhappy Solo Issues

    Solo Issues

I have loved this nice pistol for about 300 rounds. Then the problems started as noted below from another post I made. That brought me to this thread, looking for a replacement of the Solo. The Kahr PM 9 (PM 45 maybe) or the Sig P 290 seem to be at the top of the list. I ruled out the Ruger, magazine safety has no place in in a carry weapon, Berretta Nano, no external slide stop is not accetable to me. The tough problem I'm sure most have experienced is it's usually difficult to find a gun to try. I'm hoping I'll get lucky at the range one day and they'll have a rental. Just my opinion and two cents based on my experience.

After about 400 rounds many problems, FTE, magazine popping out, I noticed the locking lugs on the barrel and slide were very damaged. Returned to Kimber and the slide, barrel and return spring were replaced, the frame was refinished as it was chipping. Great customer service but I have lost confidence in this weapon. When right it's a sweet shooter and very concealable but too many issues for a defensive weapon. My Glock 19 has 10,000+ rounds, no signs of wear and one recoil spring replacement. I'm looking elseware for a RELIABLE CCW pistol.

I also carry a G36, when I can. But it is no where as comfortable as the PM9. I compared my PM9 to a CW9 at my local gun shop, and the PM9 is a bit smaller.
+1 love carrying my PM9, you forget it is there

I have a carry permit, and usually carry a Smith Airweight, but just picked up a 9mm Sig P290. It's a little fellow, and sure pocket carries well. Never even know it's there.......

The some of the earlier ones had trigger problems, mine is one of the newer ones, and has never had a failure of any type.

Recoil is not bad, laser is nice. It comes with a seven and 8 round mag.

I fondled all three. I didn't care for the way the Sig fit my hand, the Kahr was ok, but, I was really leaning towards the Solo because I could put Crimson Trace laser grips on it. The problem was that I couldn't find a Solo to fondle, until today, when I just happened to stop in to a gun shop that I don't go to very often. As soon as I picked it up, I knew I HAD to have it!

Now, I just need to find a set of Crimson Trace laser grips, and some extra magazines!

P290 is kind of a neat gun. Folks must like them as a sell a lot of holsters for them both with and without laser.
