Everywhere I read that Wilson Combat is the place to get the best magazine for a Kimber.
Well I just got a Kimber Ultra CDP 2.
Which magazine should I get? There appears to be quite a selection.
Thanks,
Doc

I'd go with the version of their 47's that is made for officers/compact frames. 7 Round-Wilson Combat

I'd go with the Tripp Research 7R-45-RO Cobra mags over the Wilson Combat 47OX.

The Kimber Ultra frames are designed for the officer style mags (most commonly 7 rd today).
I probably have 40 1911 mags around, and the you can't go wrong with Tripp, Chip McCormick, or Wilson. My personal preference are the Wilson mags, but the Chip McCormick Power Mags allow you the option of not installing the baseplate extension, which helps with concealment. I have all three, and have not had an issue with any of them.
Maybe I am a little jaded, but I stay away from Kimber and SA mags. I have a few of each, and they only get used at the range.
I use Kimber Tac Pro Mags. They have removeable bases and come with two didderent sized (thickness) bumpers. They come in 7 and 8 rounds. I have used them exclusively with my two Kimber Ultra Carrys and thay have been flawless. Each costs 27-30 bucks depending on where you get them. I prefer them to others because of the carrier (does not damage the feed ramp) and lower profile than some others.
Chip McCormick 47D works great. Wilson Combat as well, though they are more expensive.

I used both the Wilson 47D and Tripp Cobras in my 3 1911s (two Springers and a Kimber CDP Pro) with zero problems. The OEM Kimber mag was subjected to "percussive maintenance" and thrown away after it refused to work reliably.

Every Auto Pistol I own works great with the Mag (s) that came with it. (but I do not have a 1911)
You might think an expensive 1911 would come with the best mags available, but alas they seem to send them with the cheapest mags available,I have some oem colt mags and had an issue where the feed lips got bent enough that after emptying a mag at the range when I dropped the mag it came out in pieces, these have a welded floor plate so I shoved everything back in and rebent the feed lips with a pair of needlenose pliers.I carry Wilson 47D's,they are made outta Stainless Steel which is a lot stronger than tin

Which ever you go with, be sure it is Aluminum friendly so you don't damage the Kimber.....

Im a big fan of the .22LR for bear defense.
Just shoot the guy next to you in the knee and run like heck.
I like Wilson's and Chip McCormick are excellent also BUT if you have a Smith & Alexander, and perhaps other, mag wells the McCormick will not always seat plus I prefer the polymer follower.

I carry an Ultra all winter and have a few real Colt pony logo mags that have never FTF. I did once have a feeding problem with HP ammo and the original Kimber mag. Try what you got and shoot what works all the time.
The Ruger MKIII 22/45 is the worst handgun in history to take apart, but is one of the funnest to shoot...
Just got a couple from Chip McCormick. Going to the range in a couple days.
Thanks for the recommendations.

I see that this thread is rather dated.
I'm very new at this, and have recently purchased two Kimber handguns. Would someone be kind enough to point me to the correct Wilson Mag for these?
1. Kimber Ultra Crimson Custom Carry II (8 round)
2. Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II (7 round) for carry.
Is there any real difference in the black versions? is the compact/officer 1911 versions the right one for these? will the custom carry version use a full size 1911 magazine?
thanks
