    Custom 1911 sources

    My wife has promised me on our 5th anniversary that I can buy her a custom 1911.

    Her tastes are quite exacting, and will likely require the weapon to be completely custom. While I was happy to assemble her AR from parts, I doubt my skills are adequate for a 1911.

    So, fellow DC members: Have you any recommendations for a source for made to order 1911s?

    I'd probably opt for Heirloom Precision or a Volkman Custom for a "special" piece. I wanted something a little less costly and a little quicker and went with a Nighthawk Custom, they'll build anything you want. I called in, spoke with them for about an hour discussing what I wanted, about four months (and a good chunk of change) later I had a gun built 98% the way I wanted, I did give them creative license as they know what they're doing so them using a different ambi safety wasn't too much of a disappointment, if there's ever a problem they'll fix it.
