The Pinklady and I went today looked. Was intending to take a 2nd look at a Springfield that I saw last week, but once we got there and started looking at it compared to the other's around it. I decided on another one.

The one we went to look at was a Stainless 5" "Mil Spec" model.

I also looked at a Champion GI model, and a Remington R1. It was with the Remington I notice that the beaver tail after handling a few of them was starting to irritate the web of my hand and then I noticed the difference in the beaver tails. Some: the Mil-Spec, Remington R1, Champion all had the same beaver tail which is what I call a "half" beaver tail or "narrow".

Then I laid eyes on the Springfield "Loaded" models. They had a Trophy Match, but I didn't care for it. They had three Loaded's.

A Park'd version with night sights.
A Black/Stainless with adjustable sights.
A Stainless with the regular Novak sights.

The Stainless Loaded is now on Lay-A-Away

It has what I call the "full" beaver tail, which is wider and more comfortable on the web of the hand. I like stainless over Park'd any day of the week, so that was the end of that.

Woohoo, can't wait.

As an FYI, GIs, MILSPECs, and the basic R1 do not have beavertail safeties, or even 1/2 beaver tails etc. those are just your standard grip safety that would have been found on the M1911A1 and other types. The upswept grip safety of the Loaded etc. IS what is referred to a beaver tail grip safety.

I'm a lucky man We both talk about which gun will be our next purchase, because they are all "ours". She has one that is her's, the Pinklady (S&W Mod 60 (no dash) with the pink grips), and I switch off between carrying the PM9, LCR, Glock 19 EXO, etc. She mainly carries the LCP though because it's small, light and easier for her to carry. We both enjoy shooting all of them though.

You've chosen wisely. If I could do it again, I'd get the stainless too. I got the park'ed because it was in the LGS for many, many months and the owner got tired of the tearful goodbyes every time I left.

You will love the Black Stainless. One of the best looking 1911s out there and it shoots well. I had a Kimber Black Stainless, (Eclipse) , and it was stolen after getting it just right for me.
