What does +P mean?
I know it's probably a dumb question but I read about these +P rounds on here all the time and I have no idea what it means. I'm military, but I'm new tothe handgun scene, so anyone who want's to take the time to explain what +P is, please do so.
Thanks,
Eddie

A cartridge loaded to higher-than-standard pressures for its caliber, to produce higher velocity; +P+ loadings are generally produced on special contracts for law enforcement agencies and are not always readily available to private citizens

For some types of ammunition, the manufacturers have established precise pressure figures for +P and +P+ loads. For others, no specific pressure figure has been established...they are just higher than the standard pressure load.

My memory may not be serving that well but IIRC in 9mm the ''bonus'' is in region of 50fps - being as it is tho quite a high pressure round in std form this small increase will most probably reflect in a significantly higher pressure peak.

Cor-Bon makes a 9mm+P+ load for civilians. I'm going to the gunshow tomorrow, I'll look.

+P ammo..
I'm one of the "Odd One's Out". I don't think I've even spent $25.00 in 20 (+P+) years of handgunning, on +P ammo...
(I will admit to having purchased "Ridiculous Gobbs" of "Low Velocity/ Sub-Sonic Rounds though), as well as having been issued tons of it for "Special Occasions..!"
I've really just never seen the attraction myself..! I know I'm a weirdo, But... (Oh Yah..! I knew something would come to mind..;) "I got a Hot Wife though..!" (LOL..!)

Thanks...I had never known what it was. I think for some reason I thought it stood for "pressure" as in an overpressure round.
