    Question on S&W 637

I am going to be picking up a used 637 next week that will be used for CCW probably in a pocket holster. I know that most people would suggest the 642 model with the shrouded hammer, but the 637 was a pretty good deal and money is a little tight these days. I was thinking about having the hammer trimmed down if I have a snagging issues when drawing from my pocket but was wondering if the slightly reduce weight of the hammer would affect reliability? Forgive me if this is a silly question!!

I would not bob the hammer. When you draw, just put your thumb on the end of the hammer, not over the top of it making the gun bigger, but on the end creating your own shroud with your thumb. It won't cost you money and should keep the hammer from snagging on anything.

I second the 'no bob'...a little muscle memory with your thumb on the hammer is all you need.

I often pocket carry my S&W model 37 as a bug and I have never had an issue with the hammer getting caught up. Try it out for a while before you make a decision.

Yup, enjoy as is... I did ksholder's suggestion before I bought my 442. It works just fine.
