Thinking about the Para Wart Hawg...

I like the small 1911's, but I wonder about the loss of velocity when the .45acp is launched out of that short of a barrel.

Does anyone know what the velocity is from one of these very short tubes or know a site where this data is available?

I also really like the Dan Wesson bobtail commander 1911. In fact, I think I might like the Dan Wesson better than the mini 1911's. I'd still like to read the data on the loss of speed from the shorter barrels.

You might want to do a "Search" of this forum for any threads addressing that gun. There are other gun forums as well if you dont get what you need from this one. Search them as well.

www.1911forum.com has a section covering Para-Ordnance that could be a great source of information.

    Hope this helps!!!

test data - .45 velocity vs. barrel length

Here is a link to a test done by Stephen Camp using 1911 style .45s in three barrel lengths (3.0, 4.25 and 5.0 inches) and the same type of ammo in all cases:

    .45 ammo velocity test

For the ammo selected, he shows the 3 inch gun having muzzle velocity about 11% lower than the 5 inch gun.

Note: I see that the link above doesn't work today. It worked a couple of days ago, and I apologize. But I recall the 11% figure, and believe it to be correct.

The link is OK today - in fact couldn't quickly spot a percentage quote but the page does give some excellent info ... per all Steve's work.
