Cleaning the barrel on an AR-15

I'm fairly new to the AR rifle and have a few questions about cleaning, I've read on other forums that you only push cleaning patches through in one direction while onthers say to go in both directions. Some have mentioned using diffrent chemicals as well. My AR is a Rock River LAR-15, I've probably shot close ro 300 rounds through it so far si I figured I'd try cleaning mostly for the learning experience.

I clean my ARs with a foaming bore cleaner (same as just about everything else) and I run patches from the breach end just because I set the uppers in a holder I have at the shop. The only precaution I take is to set it in the holder sights up so no foam or gunk gets into the gas tube. I use the foams just because I have tons of it at the shop where I work and it does a great job of removing copper fouling that I'm too lazy to scrub out with a brush and patches.

I use a bore snake from the breech and pull through the muzzle...

Cleaning should be done from the breech to to muzzle (direction of bullet travel)

I remove the upper from the lower and push a few patches soaked in Ballistol from the breach to the muzzle. Only takes a few minutes. Ballistol is GREAT stuff.

.22 bore snake works just fine.

This is exactly how I do it. Works great. Get the .22 bore snake

Not going to join in on the Boresnake and brand of cleaner yada, yada, yada. But yes, I clean all my firearms from breech to muzzle. I didn't know there was another way?

Only clean from the breech end (chamber ) so you dont damage the muzzle.

Always use an aluminum or coated rod with a brass or bronze brush , followed by patches.

You can use any commercial solvent you wish.

Do not leave OIL in the chamber or bore after cleaning.

Boresnakes are wonderful - especially right after shooting, while the gun is still hot. I highly recommend cleaning then and there. As for cleaning fluid of choice, I use CLP. It's widely available and it works fine.

Regarding copper fouling, I don't think it's a significant issue unless you've put over a thousand rounds through the barrel.

I run brushes from chamber to muzzle,unless it's a gun like the 10/22 that it's impossible.
