When camping, fishing, or hunting, I carry my 44 (Taurus Tracker SS). I will also carry it OWB when we get to a little cooler weather.

    I've carried my S&W 29-3, 25-5, and Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt.

I'd be partial too, that's one beautiful hand cannon!

I'm certainly drawn to the beauty of these large caliber wheelies, but can't help but wonder whether they're "overkill" for the situations I'd normally find myself using them in, i.e. HD and possibly SD vs. 2-legged threats. What are your thoughts on this, especially re: the .44 mag? I could see the .44 being useful for me on a trip into the Everglades where I may come across gators and 15-foot pythons, but I've got this chirping in the back of my mind that for HD/SD a .357 would be the sweet spot and a .44 would be pushing it in terms of usefulness.

And again, some gorgeous wheelguns in here.

Sometimes it's not about practicality, it's about doing something fun. It's a shame to have some guns, and not carry them around.

That, and some of us go into areas (like the Everglades) and want something heavier than a .357 just in case.

I carry my 4" Taurus Tracker in a Galco Silouette hip holster when I can wear a longer shirt or jacket. It rides great and is light enough to not notice it is there. I load it with 165 gr .44 special Hornady CD's and have two speed strips one with 5 more 165's and one with 5 200gr Speer Gold Dot HP's. I have to say I really like this revolver . Loaded with .44 mag's it is a good camp gun as well. I also have a speedloader of 135 gr silver glaser .44 mags in the night stand for HD.
S&W / Taurus / Ruger / Beretta / Remington and Benelli .... and if all else fails I have my ... My .50 flintlock

I alternate between a 1911 and my 2" .357, depending on dress. Either is sufficient for SD situations and I don't feel the need for anything bigger, (nor do I have the bank account for one of those big beautiful firearms - drat )

.44 mag does seem like a lot of firepower for SD against humans. I kinda dig it though. Don't see myself owning one anytime soon, but carrying one seems pretty cool.

I carry this as my "Flash Mob" Special when I`m out at night. I have it loaded with some nasty 410 personal defense and some .45ACP. Handles well.
