Kahr mk 9 or 40 elite or Sig 230

Looking at two CCW's. The MK9/40 or Sig 230. Do you go with a 9mm, a .40 cal or a .380? Is Kahr as reliable as Sig? Worried about the kick of a small .40. I currently shoot an XD45 service and find the recoil acceptable. Any thoughts?

Don't know about the MK9\40 but you can't go wrong with a Sig in 9 or 40, if you are looking for a small carry gun don't forget the XDsc.

Depends on the application. If you can afford the Sig I would say go for that.

Dont worry so much about the recoil. I have a subcompact .40 and I handle it fine. Im 6'1" 160lbs soaking wet.

    Stick with

Stay with 9mm or larger. XD-SC, Sig 229/239, or Kahr PM-XX series.
    380s are for compactness, there I would recommend a Kel-Tec P3AT.

Any. Kahrs certainly don't have the record of reliability that Sig has. But of the smal guns the MK series don't have near as many complaints. My PM40 has had some problems and I'm currently running through its paces. But the PM40 has been said to be the most prublematic.

But of the three you mentioned I'd take the MK9. Less recoil than the 40 and gives you one extra round. The Sig 230's and 232's are a little bigger than your standard PPK and will be bigger than the Kahrs. However the all black model of the 232 weighs less than the MKs because it has an alloy or aluminum frame.

My Mk9 Elite 03 has been 100% reliable with my carry ammo which is 124gr +P Gold Dot. It's heavier than a PM9 but easier to handle because of it. I used to own a Sig P239 DAO in 9mm and it was a great gun and 100% reliable as well. Sold it to a friend and his wife uses it as her CCW now.

based on dimensions only, the kahrs will be more concealable and I believe a bit more comfortable. I think their quality is a tad under the sig but still one of the most reliable guns on the market IMHO. I have the P9 and love it. The Sigs are larger in the grip and other demensions but I think they're great weapons. you can pay almost as much for a Kahr if you get night sights and a blackened stainless slide on the kahr.

    God Bless

I had a malfunction with my Kahr MK9 that was very hard to clear. The empty case got stuck on the slide near the ejection port and I had to hold the slide to the rear and use the rest in front of me to pry the empty shell case off of the slide. This would have been bad in a gun fight if I didn't have a BUG. I sold the Kahr and will never buy another one.

I would go with the Sig. I have a P228 that has never had a malfunction.

    Good luck.

I have a MK9 and have never had any problems with it. Shoots nice and looks pretty good too - that being said I carry my Glock 27 twice as much -

My MK9 has been very reliable. My PM9 has not quite proven itself yet.

I'm not a fan of the 230/232 for a couple reasons. First, the magazine release is on the heel -- all my training has been with thumb-button style magazine releases. Most importantly, the 230/232 is too big for pocket carry. If I'm going to carry in a holster, then I can carry a gun with a better caliber (9, .40, or .45). So for me, the 230/232 is an answer to a question I've never asked. YMMV.

    Kahr

I have the Kahr K40. Easy to conceal & carry, mine has been reliable & trouble free. Easy to control. I like it better than my Glock 27.

I have no experience with the MK Kahrs. I've heard the polymer framed Kahr have problems.

Just my 2 cents., for all its worth.

Go with the Sig. I have never seen a Kahr that I would even think about buying. And they are made in Worchester MA nothing good has ever come out of that city.
