I imagine if Kel Tec made a 40mm it would be like shooting a 44mag. I can shoot my Glock 27 all day.
Keltec did make a 40 S&W the P40,I'm sure a 40mm round would kick harder than a 44 magnum in just about any platform, except the Mark 19 40mm grenade launcher

My sentiments exactly. I'll stick with my .40.

If having 16 rds of a (albeit slightly) superior ballistic round makes me more confident, I can live with that also. He's got logic, but I'm still comfortable in .40

Find something that meets your needs, fits your purpose, that you can shoot well, and get proficient with it. Caliber doesn't matter as much as your ability.

If .40 is so bad, why did so many police departments switch from 9mm to .40? Been shooting .40 for 11 years and used to it.
I have to admit, I do have another.Glock that shoots a 9mm bullet, it just has a .40 case behind it :)

Well, you were "wrong" in the '90s. Maybe you're wrong now? Just sayin.

I respect what Rob does/is doing very much but if the difference in calibers isn't as big a factor as it once was due to the new ammo and cost is minimally different the only argument left is control....and that comes down to what one is comfortable with. A big guy will be able to handle a 1911 45cal better than a very elderly person who would be better off with a S&W Body Guard 380 or something like that. He has found what works for him obviously and that may be what works for many others as well but we're all different as well.
Great article, Rob has always something to contribute/learn from/think about.

I sure am glad to hear this.

Now I can get rid of my .45 Colt, .357. .45 1911, etc. All I really needed was the 9 mm.

So now when I go in the woods where there are bears, I can carry my little S&W 9mm instead of my .45 Cold loaded with 300gr at 1300 fps.

And if I ever get to go on safari and shoot an elephant that 9 mm will be just the thing.

The modern 9mm SD round is a huge improvement over those produced a few years ago.

    One other reason for 9mm:

When civilization collapses, 9mm will still be available pretty much everywhere.
Granted if you reload, its not as big a deal.

On that note, which is very valid, I'll carry a .40, and have a 9 mil for times when .40 is hard to find.

I dunno - with civilization collapsed, I'm thinking more along the lines of .30-.30, .30-06, .22 LR and 12-gauge (not necessarily in that order). Any handgun will be not nearly as useful.

I'm glad I shoot 45's and don't have to spend any mental energy on this topic.

    Carry on.
