I prefer to carry the 1911 in cooler weather. It is generally what I shoot best, and I actually like the weight of it, particularly in jeans with a sturdy belt and cover jacket.

Although I am eternally grateful to Glock in these mercilessly hot summers.

    It's nice to have options.

I loved my 1911's from my first service pistol in the Army to my customized Springfield. If I were to have one today, it would be an Ed Brown Kobra.

It is the platform I am most comfortable with and shoot the best, it conceals well for me and I use a CMC 10 round mag which gives me 11 round capactiy in a thinner profile which works best for me...

To be perfectly honest, it is only because I want to carry it. I can conceal other weapons, I can shoot just as well with other weapons....I simply prefer to carry a 1911 because I want to carry a 1911.

-I trust the stopping power of the 45 ACP cartridge with my life
(Gun fights with more than 9 - 11 rounds usually happen in the movies)
-The ergonomics of the 1911 offer great indexing of the weapon
-The slim frame is easy to conceal (even with the 5")
-I prefer the Single Action trigger for accuracy
-The Manual Safety is easily engaged/ disengaged during holster/ draw
-Of course there is a bit of nostalgea behind the historic design
    -Easily customized to your preferences
-I could go on for days.......

As for carrying a whopping 5" 1911 over a pocket pistol for concealment's sake. I've taken the time to prep my method of carry to properly/comfortably conceal my 1st choice weapon because if ever I needed to deploy it to save my life I'd like to rely on my 1st choice weapon. Thank you Mr. Browning

(BTW: I'm not opposed to other systems by any means)

Please feel free chime in with your reasons why you chose the 1911 or why you choose a different system.

for all the reasons so eloquently stated above, and because I have 4 of them in various configurations and I know the weapon inside and out. If you take care of it a little; it will take care of you forever.

Oh yea and John Moses made it and he was a genius.

Because life is too short to carry an ugly gun! But in all seriousness I have pretty big hands yet the slim frame of a 1911 fits soo well and points great for me...

A .50 Desert Eagle says go away more than a 1911 :), if that is what you are interested in of course.

I’m still looking for a semi auto that feels better in my hand and I can use with greater accuracy.

I no longer carry one but you wouldn't have to twist my arm to talk me into it. Today, I'd go with a 9mm due to my age and the added round. More on point, I like the 1911 because if its tuned properly it can be the most reliable auto-loader on the market.

Ditto. I can't find a gun that feels better in my hand. There are lots of good guns out there, the 1911 fits and "feels" the best to me.
