I have a 642 and carry it as my primary BUG. However, when I do carry as primary (usually on the Motorcycle) it rides in Mika pocket holster or Crossbreed Supertuck IWB.

Love my 642! I carry my PM9 more than it, but I still carry it a lot. Appendix or Mika pocket holster

642-2 (less frequency 637-2) in a Desantis Summer Heat IWB at 4:00. I forget its there, until the holidays, when I gain a few pounds and my pants get tight. Added bonus is that it helps me keep the weight off!

Sometimes I use a Fobus paddle holster, but I'm looking for a better OWB rig.

I find my 642 with Galco pocket holster or OWB is the one to carry. And I carry it a lot more hours than I shoot it. Sure, it's a handsnapper at the range but properly gripped for your handsize and firmly held it'll let you get/stay proficient way before you hand falls off. Almost every other gun I own is more fun to shoot but I don't carry a firearm for fun.

My primary carry gun is my 1911 Kimber, which is also my favorite gun to shoot. But lately, I've been carrying my 642 more frequently. It is my primary carry gun in the summer when I'm wearing cargo shorts and Ts or tank-tops, but lately I've been carrying it more in the winter as well. It just fits so nicely in a pocket in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster and is so light and comfortable to carry. Not the most fun gun to shoot, but nice to carry.

If you like revolvers, take a good look at the S&W632-2 (.327 Fed. Mag.).

My number one goal, should I ever be in a gunfight, will be to not get shot. My best chance of achieving that goal I believe would be to get the first hit to center mass. If I'm able to get the first shot off I'll logically have the best chance of scoring the first hit. Most of my practice consists of quick draw hip shooting at 3 to 5 yards on silhouette targets. Statistically, the vast majority of defensive encounters occur at 10 feet or less. I'm able to keep well over 90 percent of my shots in center mass doing this....it's not that hard. The 642 is perfect for this approach...along with the LRC, Bodyguard, a shrouded Detective special or a bobbed hammer Chief's special.
I agree with you, but do you practice shooting it from your pocket? With an old throw-away jacket of course! ( And handy fire extinguisher )

I've been thinking long (and I do mean long) about investing in a 642. I carry a Glock around all the time, and the smaller, lighter gun really appeals to me. I had it in my mind to buy an SP101 for .357 capability, but I'm not sure that's something I really need or want in a gun this size. They aren't all that expensive, either. This thread may push me into it.

S&W 642 is a great carry gun. Always with you and quick into action. I carry mine mostly in a Kramer pocket holster and sometimes a Kramer holster with a clip.

As much as I push the LCR 357 I will always have a warm spot for the 442.
