    Slim DA/SA 9mm

    Need I say more?

I'm looking for something in a 9mm that has the width of a Walther PPS or a Kahr PM9 that has a hammer. I've noticed that all the pistols with D/A only triggers, i've gotten rid of. What I would love is a single stack 9mm with a hammer that can be close to the size of a Kahr. And don't say an EMP because that is more than I can reasonably afford.

    Any suggestions?

So far i'm leaning towards a Bersa Thunder .380 but thought i'd try to find a slim 9mm with a hammer.

Bersa Thunder 9 ultra compact. Not as slim as the .380, but still easy to carry. It is a double stack, but not as thick as most. It is a little heavier than the poly single stacks, but it helps dampen recoil a good bit.

you named the two best single stack 9mm's for carry IMO....top of the line. Other than the Smith 3913 that Danimal mentioned, you are pretty much SOL as far as finding a SA/DA pistol that is even close to the PPS or PM9 is size.

A little bit heavy,(all steel) but you might see if you can find a Star Firestar M43 9mm single stack 7+1. Single action only just like the EMP, but at a fraction of the price. Star is no longer around, but you can find them on Gunbroker all the time.

a real shooter, and almost zero recoil........

Kimber Ultra CDP II in 9mm

Few other options. The Beretta is ugly as sin IMO, but to each their own.

Look for a S&W 908. It is probably the best DA/SA small frame compact for the money around. You should find one for under $400. It's based on the excellent 39 series, so it's proven, reliable and has a very nice trigger.

    One other, sort of...

Another pistol - and not made anymore - is the Star BKS (alloy frame) or BKM (steel frame). It is a single stack, single action only 9x19 caliber pistol based on a modified Browning falling link (1911) design. I used to have of the alloy frame pistols and it was a dandy. They are available used only. The manufacturer is gone, but there are parts around somewhere.

One wonders why no manufacturer makes such a desirable pistol anymore. Everything HAS to be either DA/SA, DAO or ala Glock, the half-wit - I mean - half cocked, striker fired mechanism. Being an old guy isn't for sissies.

Ref mention of the Star BKS & BKM. Much more available these days is the BM. This all steel 1911 'style' pistol has a 3.75" bbl and 8rds +1. IIRC slide width is .81. As mentioned Star is no longer in business but these are extremely reliable well-made pistols.

It is slimish, single stack, incredibly light SA only trigger on semi-auto.

This firearm is incredibly unique, that when you squeeze the grips, at about 15 pounds of force, you are 1) cocking the striker, 2) Disengaging the safety and there was a 3rd.. It only requires 1.5lbs of force to keep the grip squeezed. The pistol operates on a retarded gas blow back system. Basically, when the projectile is fired everything on the pistol stays as stationary as possible until the projectile has left the barrel by utilizing a pistol and gas chamber under the barrel which stops/slows the slide from cycling until pressure in the chamber drops to 0.

The trigger pull is incredibly light, around 3.5lbs and can almost be compared to a rifle trigger squeeze, that's how crisp the break is.
