I think I have had an outstanding year.

I have had permits in several different states. As I recently moved to Iowa, I obtained a carry permit for this state as well. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Iowa had relaxed the somewhat stringent rules for getting a permit. Iowa is a shall issue state now, and many are the civilians to take advantage of that. As I said, I have had a carry permit in whatever state for about 14 years, but never took it seriously. Never trained. Never practiced. Handguns are what you shoot when the rifles are cooling down. And then I moved to Iowa. My only handgun was a 380.

Iowa requires a handgun training class to get a permit (prior military service will suffice). I did not need this class (as it turned out, previous permits would have put me under the wire). But I did not know this, and took the class. I met a couple of guys (instructors) who really kicked it open. They showed me just how real this is. And they taught me that running a handgun is a wee bit tougher than a long rifle. And they were right. I shoot with them every month at the local shoots that they put on. Imagine that you are a pretty good shot (and you were, with a rifle), but if you threw your handgun to the ground, you would miss. That was me. But I guess I am getting better. Much better. It is addictive, and humbling, and I love it. I carry every day, with the best gear I can afford (and a lot of gear that would get me killed if my wife knew I had it and what it cost).

    And the 380?

It has turned into a j-frame Model 60 Smith, an XDm 9mm, a 226 Stainless Elite 9mm, an M&P 357 SIG, a 229 E2 40, and a Kimber Custom II Stainless 45. TT Gunleather, Alessi, Milt Sparks, CompTac, Kramer Leather, and AG Gunleather have provided the means to hang it all.

And I have you guys to thank (blame?) for also helping get my tail in gear. Appreciate it.

Yeah, I'd say I have had a pretty good year.

I wish my couple guns would morph into a Wilson Combat, Dan Wesson, Les Baer, etc., etc., etc.

Hah!! You got it bad, my friend. Nice list of friends you have added to your arsenal as well.

I used to shoot IDPA....thought I was pretty good until I competed with those that really are. Very humbling and addicting.
Kimbers are the guns you show your friends....Glocks are the ones you show your enemies.
