Both are fine weapons and will be excellent choices. I would look at the M&P40c though... YMMV

Buy whichever one you like best. The G23 is probaly smaller and would be better for concealment.

I like the G23. Zero experience with the xd. M&Ps are nice too.

I carried a G23 for 5 years. It conceals really well. It can be carried OWB with the right holster in summer clothes. Maybe this will help:

The Glock is definitely going to be, or feel, smaller in size and will likely be lighter. However, carried in a good holster with a good gun belt, it is unlikely there would be any great difference in how they carry. Get the one you feel is the right gun for you and get good equipment to carry it in and you should be pretty happy.

For the record, I carry an XD45 Service 4" gun in an Mtac Minotaur. However, Glock beats XD almost every time in weight and slimness of the frame.
I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry.

Both are outstanding, have you shot both and tried them in holsters?

I carry a G19 same size as G23 and love it, easy to conceal.

M&P40compact is a little smaller than the Glock23 and will be slightly easier to conceal in warmer months, yet still more manageable than a Glock 27.. as for the XD I don't like the grip safety.M&P vs XD - YouTube

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.

I have both the XD9 Service and the Glock 19. I would expect the comparison between the XD40 Service and the Glock 23 would be similar. Speaking for my guns the Glock is a bit lighter and seems slimmer but the difference in the 2 guns for carry and for concealment really isn't noticeable to me.

I carry a sub compact xd40, conceals really well. /// I think most cc comes down to a good holster and gun belt, so whichever gun you like the best will conceal well, with the proper equipment, my theory is not to put a five hundred dollar gun in a fifteen dollar holster on a ten dollar wal mart belt.....

I like my G19 for concealed carry quite a bit. Other than midsummer it works for all occasions, and I am finding I carry it more and more, even above my Kahr CM9.

Same here. So if you are eyeing a G23 I would choose that if it were me.
