There is a significant difference between combat and cc in the U.S. I own revolvers because I like .357 mag, they're simple and reliable, and they look cool, but my combat sidearm would be a full size, double stack, semi-auto pistol. Glock, Sig, Beretta, M&P, etc.

You bet. It had to make the cut and really is a practical choice. Its original factory moniker was the "Combat Magnum."

Of course I'm going to be all retro but honestly feel these choices would be best for most non-military self-defense applications.

    Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357 Magnum (any S&W K-Frame .38 Special or .357 Magnum would do)
    Colt Government Model .45 ACP
    Browning Hi-Power 9mm
Smith & Wesson Model 24 .44 Special (alternative would be a S&W Model 625 .45 ACP - so handy with its moon clips)
    SIG P225 9mm

It is better to have your gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

The problem with this topic is something Sixto touched on as people mostly vote for what they have. Many folks truly don't have enough experience, money and knowledge to actually complete this list properly other then their own limited views and experience. Myself included! I have had and shot many of the firearms that people have listed, but not them all and not on a two way range.

For a combat type encounter I would probably want more capacity than I now have with my 1911 or snubbie 44 spcl that I presently carry for self defense. I would have to go with a high-cap in 9mm in that situation.

Am I wrong to believe that combat and self-defense are two entirely different situations with two entirely different needs?
