If you have a C&R and AIM has them in stock you can pick one up for about 330 or 340.

yeah i see buds has them. I read something about the P1 Alloy frame cracking but would like to hear opinions about the gun
Proudly living in the free state of Florida
I really like most Walther firearms & I have nothing against Walther (in general) but, I think the Walther P38 is one of the absolute worst klunker firearms on the planet.
I inherited two of them and got rid of both of them. That is my honest opinion.
If somebody walked up to me and wanted to give me one I would say: "No Thanks. Give it to somebody else."
Please tell me they weren't war booty brought back by your grandfatheror something... Say it ain't so Joe!I inherited two of them and got rid of both of them.
Actually, I quite the Walther P4 and would own one if the right deal came along here in Kalifornia (not that easy with our "Safety List")---P38s are another pretty good shooter, but there are many many versions with varying QC depending on who made them and when. I really like my P5 and would buy a P5C if I could get a fine example.
I own a Walther P1. It was brand new in January of 81 and from the looks of it, it had never been issued or fired. There are no rework stamps and it has the strengthened alloy frame with the cross pin in it. I shoot Winchester White Box 115gr 9mm through it. The First time I shot it at 25 feet I put the entire magazine into a 2" circle. I love it. It has proven to be accurate and dependable. It is now my CCW. The single stack mag and coresponding smaller grip fits my hand perfect although I did put a Houge slip on grip on it with a little trimming. Make sure the one you get has the steel frame or the hex shaped cross pin and have fun!!!

Thanks everybody for input. Buying this piece from Buds.
Curious if it has the strengthened frame/hexagon pin? I am waiting on mine still. I am buying at the store and they have not come in yet.
Thanks
I have taken mine out to our private range (out at our farm) and have now run 6 magazines through it and the worse grouping at 25 yards was 4 inches. I will try to scan in a couple of the targets. I would recommend Winchester White Box 115gr ball ammo, it has provided the best accuracy so far out of mine. I am looking for a holster (the german ones really suck) to carry it and one extra mag in. I just acquired a Smith and Wesson M&P15 Sport so my holster funds are kind of restricted (according to the family CFO) but would love any suggestions that anyone would have. Thanks![]()

The best defense is a completely overwhelming offense!!!
Got mine! 2/80, has hex pin, no rework, no import stamp, fat slide, made for the Bundeswehr. Minor scuff and I guess a Parkerized finish. I never had a weapon with that finish. Any tips on taking care of this type?
I am going to go to the range at Buds today. Shot one in the '70's while stationed in the FRG. I left Deutschland before this one made! Beautiful weapon.
edit note, I found import stamp.

Had a P-38 years ago and I didn't like it, but to each his own.
