Is this Taurus 85 beauty worthy of my 60th Birthday present to myself?!

It's my 60th Birthday in May and I want a (another) gun! No jewelry, no clothes, just another gun.

    So, I have a Bodyguard 380 that's ugly.
I have a Springfield XD sub compact 9mm that's uglier.
    I have a Springfield Loaded 1911 that's ....... well, that's a 1911....nuf said.
    (And, I love them all!)
Now, I want a pretty gun and pink is NOT in my repertoire.

What do you think of this Taurus 85, .38 special? Actually, I am looking at it from a practical standpoint. I need a "snake" gun I can load with rat shot for the copperheads on my property and for hiking in the Nat'l Forests/Parks and as a BUG to one of the above. (read: excuse/justification)

I got to play with this in person but didn't get to shoot it. It felt really, really good in my hand. Oh, and since my birthday is in May and I'm a hard-headed Taurus, I thought a Taurus would be appropriate.

    Should I go for it?

There is a Taurus 85 in my safe. It has been reliable since the day I bought it. If you want it, get it, after all you only turn 60 once!

BTW, an early happy birthday from another Taurus.

Get it, and then post a range report.

    Happy early birthday!

    Taurus revolvers = not pretty

Ruger or S&W revolvers = pretty

Convince me with reasons/details/pictures! (I showed you mine.) I actually held a 90's vintage Colt .38 which got me onto this Taurus. Not pretty either but....'twas a COLT!

The 85 is a great gun, and the gold accents just set it off. I like it so does Jamal

Seriously though. It would be a great present.

I was a little late for the party on yesterday's thread about CCW Revolver. I see lots of reasons, rammerjammer, why you mention Ruger and S&W.

Who's Jamal. I like his watch.

Grandpa told me "You can't have enough acres, or guns to keep 'em off."

    That's a pretty Taurus.

My model 85 is "hammerless". I have never carried it but I have shot it plenty. It is (other Taurus's excluded) a keeper. My 85 is highly polished and I wish it was back to a satin finish. The wife keeps it in her craft room and loves the hammerless aspect.

I agree but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If the Taurus is to your liking , don't let webcrawlers dissuade you. I have a Taurus 9mm because I can't afford a Beretta. I have 3 S&W revolvers. Love them, looks, shooting, and otherwise.
    Buy it, and enjoy!

No insult intended but the Taurus you have in the picture looks like a cheap pimp's gun. To each their own though, buy what you like.

Heck at 60 (almost) no one here is going to change your mind. Never owned a Taurus, but if thats what I wanted, I'd get it!

    (Happy and all that DAO.Diva!)
