    Retired my G19 Today.

I semi-retired my G19 today. It's a Gen 2 that I've had approximately 19-20 years. Thousands of rounds have gone through it and I can't say it has ever given me any grief. Why retire it? It was given to me by my father and lately I've just been thinking I don't want anything to happen to it. It will stay in the safe now with a trip to the range now and then while the new Gen 4 G19 becomes my main. I seriously considered going to 40 S&W but in the end I could see no real reason. The 9mm in the G19 has served me well for two decades, why change? Here's hoping I get another twenty from this one.

I like your reasoning. A gift deserves a fitting retirement. Very neat.

certainly no reason in my opinion. if you've been drilling holes with a G19 for 20 years you're probably going to see no benefit changing anything. I love the G23 but 20yrs with a G19 has to outweigh any small advantage you might get switching cartridges.

Yep, I agree that you have given your fathers present to you a good life and you are making 2 good decisions. One to retire it in good condition and the other to replace it with a new Gen4 of the same kind.... The latest and greatest. In my opinion, Very Well Done!

Whew. I thought you were gonna say that you retired your G19 and got an M&P. JK, before the S&W crowd get their hackles up. The Gen 2 G19 is a sweet gun indeed. I carried mine today. I rebuilt mine a few years ago. I've had mine since it was issued to me by the NYPD in 1997. She is still a sweet shooter. I love shooting my 19. I would like to get a Gen 4 also. I'm just not ready yet.

Good luck with your new 19 and happy resting to your old 19.

It is better to have your gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

I was thinking I would see you had fallen in love with the PPQ's trigger.

I have to give it to the Gen. 4's though that slimmer more ergonomic grip is an improvement over the standard GLOCK.

I'm in this camp on this one.
Before I clicked, I thought, WHAT!!!!!????????
But even something as generic as a G19, given to you by a loved one , can still be a treasured memento.

because the 40 s&w is a better round and for pennys you get more stopping power

ALWAYS nice to have something special from your dad... and a G19 makes it even more so! Well done.

I regularly carry my Gen 2 G19. It's a great weapon. I have thought about "upgrading" to the Gen 4. At this point, I don't see any major advantage to the Gen 4. I don't have a need for the accessory rail. I've never had a FTF. I'd be curious how your new Gen 4 compares to the Gen 2.

I'd like to know where you shop for your .40?

Even the cheapo Walmart or Russian stuff is still 40-50% more a box...

@ the OP - it sounds like you have a wonderful father and are doing that Glock right.
