Man, I LOVE that gun. If you ever run out of ammo you can beat the bear down with it.

Thanks to all of you and yes, I do have a great family. I beleive there was another reason the son's chose this gun though. Recently I had seen a Redhawk, of which I have 2, that a guy had shortened to 4" and man I really liked that gun. I had made a comment that I would like to do that to one of mine. I think my son's want those Redhawks after Dad has gone to the great shooting range in the sky. While at the gunshow in July, I made a comment about the Alaskan and how cool it looked without the broomhandle barrel, and what a great field carry weapon it would be. Obviously they decided that if I had the Alaskan, I would leave the Redhawks alone. Well at least they are listening to what I say....I would also imagine the Alaskan will be my Anniversary and Christmas present. That's just fine with me!!

Congratulations! I've got the poor man's version, and it is really a hoot to shoot. Even with full bore handloads it is really pretty docile. I guess because it's so heavy. The GP-100 grips fit so you may be able to go with wood grips if you like. Here is a pic of my Father/Son Ruger Duo:

    Happy Borthday!

And, congrats on the cool present.

Somehow I think that version of the Alaskan will find it's way into my hands in the next year or so.
