Forgot to tell you why I voted for the 38 spec.
it shoots easy compared to the .357 and for me I can shoot it more accurate. even in da with my Smith.

My 357 is the larger 686 but I have a hard time shooting it in da with the 357. because I may need to shoot right away that is important to me.
Honestly if I am going to mess around with 357 I would just bring out the 629 classic and shoot either 44 spec or mag.

I have both Ruger LCR's. .38 and .357. Personally I like the .38 better. It's a little lighter to carry, and I don't feel any less armed with .38's than .357's. The .357 to me is too much recoil for quick follow-up shots. So I choose the .38.

I have a model 60 Smith. The all stainless gun does dampen recoil, but is not a great pocket gun. Pretty heavy. It is a 357, but you won't catch me shooting those. I carry 38+p. I guess if you don't mind feeling like Mike Tyson just hammered your palm every time you torch one off, get a 357. I am not afraid to carry 38+p ammo in my 357 j frame. I trust it.

Wow, three pages and no one yet has claimed that the .357 out of a snubbie has no ballistic advantage over a .38 Special +P, we are making some progress.

I carry a SP101 or LCR, both in .357, on a regular basis. I carry both loaded with what passes today for full-power .357 Magnum ammunition, Federal 158 grain Hi-Shok or Hydrashok, depending on what I have on hand. Both average about 1135 fps out of the 2" +/- barrels. Not too shabby for that heavy of a bullet in that short of a barrel. I suppose the Buffalo Bore .38 +P 158 grain might get close to those numbers, but I will never be convinced that those are not just modern "Keith" loads, essentially .357 Magnum loads in .38 Special cases. I know it can be done, I have gotten 1200 fps + using Keith loads in .38 Special brass with 173 grain Cast SWCs and 2400 in a 4" barrel. I don't find the recoil of the SP or LCR to be uncontrollable, stout, but not nearly as bad as is often cited on the internet.

    • Taurus® Mdl 605SS2UL 357 Magnum (Primary)
    • Taurus® Mdl 85SS2UL 38 Special (BUG)

Primary is loaded with 357 Magnum ammunition; BUG w/38 Special. As both use the same speed loaders; ALL speed loaders are 38 Special.

I have a 340PD in .357mag that I paid $500 for 3 years ago, fired mags in it for a while then got smart and switched to .38specials.

They 340PD and 340M&P are $700-850 and to me really not worth the cost. I'd buy a 642 if doing it now based on the current prices.

I dont carry my .357 anymore. When I did I kept .38 +p in there. So it was really an in-between.

I never shot a .357 snubbie at night but the flash must be obnoxious. I suppose at close range if you missed your target you could still torch the BG. I'll stick with the .38 +P thanks.
