I am building up my handgun collection and I currently have the following:
Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum
S&W M&P 9mm (full size)
Kahr P380
Sig P238 (will probably sell... don't like the SA trigger on this one)
Phoenix Arms .22 LR
I am favoring a compact, but not sub-compact. I like the looks of the Beretta PX4, but the verdict is still out. What else should I consider that might be close to the PX4 in styling.

I have never been a fan of the 1911 models. I do not care for a hammer model, but noticed the PX4 has a hammer, so I may pass on it. The Glock 26 and 27 are too small, but the 19 and 23 look interesting. I may opt for a .40 since I already have a 9mm. I like the Glocks better than the Walthers.
Thus for I will investigate closer the following:
Beretta PX4 Compact (not crazy about the hammer)
Glock 19
Glock 23
Kahr PM9
EDIT: Added the PM9 since I really like the P380.

In all seriousness, though, you should probably look at a Glock- I personally hate them for their styling (lack thereof), but they really are some of the best guns for the money. Personally, I don't think anything smaller than a .45 or weaker than .357 should be used for SD, but Glocks are great guns despite the sheer ugly factor.

I've heard that CZ makes a nice handgun, never messed w/ one personally. I would like to have a XD 45, they handle well.

The stores around here can't keep the PM9 in stock, they sell out fast.

ok ok if you dislike hammers than out of your choices I'd go with G19... and add maybe a M&P9 or 9c to the mix. 9c is a little bigger than a G26 but a little smaller than a g19. IMO fits the hand MUCH better than a brick...errr glock.

I got a G19 for christmas, and I absolutely love it. I'm going to be getting an AR-15 as my summer gun, but next year's summer gun is either going to be a 1911, CZ-75 BD, or a Sig P229. I was in my tuxedo the other night, and I thought I needed a PPK to go with it.
I'm not necessarily trying to steer you in any particular direction, but just letting you into my thought process.

lol... I think the Glocks look pretty good myself. I actually like the looks of the Glock better than the 1911 models. The Glock 19 is looking like it may be moving to the top of my list. I already own the M&P 9... and like the 9c, but since I already have the 9, I thought maybe I would get something from a different maker. I am gonna scratch the PM9. It it to small. I remember looking at it once before and after going back to the Kahr site it jogged my memory as to why I did not consider it further... it is too small. I got small in my P380 and love it. The G19 is about the right size.
Wow... just looked at the new Springfields... they are nice.

Tough question. I just traded my Walther ppks for the Kahr PM9 as the Kahr was easier for me to use. it's a great gun and I carry in a leather pocket holster. I also am a Glock fan and have competed with a 17 for over 12 years, but too big to conceal.
