    Is the Kahr PM9 really that much better than the CM9?

    I was at the range today trying some different carry pistols. I tried the kahr PM9 and thought it was just great. It was accurate, comfortable to shoot, and as others have said, the trigger was the best. It also fits nicely in a pocket. It is, however, a little expensive. Are the differences between it and the CM 9 mostly subtle like the rifling and that sort of thing? If so, I think the CM9 is going to be my next pistol.

    Thanks.

    From a practical/functional standpoint, they are identical.

    Up to each individual to make that call - PM9 vs CM9

    PM9 = Polygonal rifling
    CM9 = Conventional rifling

    PM9 = Machined slide release
    CM9 = Injection molded slide release

    PM9 = Dovetail front sight
    CM9 = Pinned front sight

    PM9 = All black option
    CM9 = No all black option (factory)

    PM9 = Night sights option
    CM9 = No night sights option (factory)

    PM9 = 2 magazines
    CM9 = 1 magazine

    PM9 = "Fancy engraving" (I forget the terminology, sorry I'm in IT not machining)
    CM9 = "Cheap engraving" (I forget the terminology, sorry I'm in IT not machining)

    Thank you. Excellent synopsis of the differences.

    It is better, but they both go bang. For a carry piece, I would personally buy the less expensive model.

    I use to own a CW9 and had zero issues with it. Quality and reliability was excellent.

    In all seriousness, thanks Thunder for the breakdown.

    I have a CM9 and could not be more pleased. It is a great gun at a fair price. I highly recommend it. Mine has over 500 rounds through it and it has been flawless.

    My CM9 drove me crazy UNTIL it had the recommended 200 rnds. through it. Now take-down( which was awful!) and assembly(ditto) are no problem. And since I went back to all 6 rnd. mags, there have been no stovepipes,ftf/fte, etc... Great gun!

    You're welcome guys. I know these Kahr's pretty well so I just try and lay out the facts and let the buyer decide what's important. For what it's worth I've owned 2 PM9's and still have an MK9, great shooters and excellent concealed carry pieces.

    Check out Silent Thunder (Garrett Industries) for holsters, worth every cent and more - or carry on the ankle in a Galco Ankle Glove with calf strap.

    Also, don't expect to be able to hand rack it until around 500 rounds unless you do it with authority. In other words, if it nose dives when hand racking don't worry about it, use the slide release (recommended in the manual). Over time it will break in and become more forgiving. Some ammo hand racks better, but mine have always eaten everything I've fed them.

    I have a PM9 with 1000 rounds through it not one failure of any kind, it is very accurate and the trigger is great.

    The much-vaunted match-grade barrel is supposed to give you higher velocity. With most loads, it does not. It was actually the opposite. It isn't much better but does come with two mags and better sights. Worth the extra money? Depends on how you think about it. Definitely a fancier version.
