I keep two spares in each car. I get most of mine either through trades on boards like this or at gun shows. For SIG mags, the best retail buys I have found are through Tom at Topgunsupply.com. Currently he has new 12rd factory P226 40/357 mags for $29.95 and used ones for $19.95. I wouldn't worry about his used stuff. It's as good as new, and if you do have a problem with them, he will usually replace them with no hassle.

3 Wilson mags for my Para CCW,
6 Mags for my Kimber CDP Pro II in .40 3 Tripp Research, 3 factory
6 Mags for my Springfield .45 1911 Chip McCormick
10 Mags for my Beretta 92FS. 2 factory, 8 Military

As far as mags are concearned I think 3 are the ususal number.
As far as after market mags are concearened STAY AWAY FROM PROMAGS! Your best deals will be at the Gun and Knife shows, after some shopping around you can get agood prices.

    Have seen them on Ebay

You can see magazines for sale on Ebay, both new and used. Here is an auction underway now for a new Sig P226 .40 caliber magazine:
    Ebay auction on P226 mag
Note that the description of the item says that "it will hold 10 rounds of ammo". But if you look closely at the mag, it appears to be a full capacity magazine that holds about 13 rounds. I believe this is because Ebay has some strange restriction against saying that a magazine holds more than 10 rounds, even though you can sell them on Ebay. So sellers get around this by showing a picture of a full capacity magazine and saying that "it will hold 10 rounds", which is certainly true as far as it goes.

The last mags I bought were from Madecov, but they were Steyr mags and somewhat hard to get at a decent price. You might shoot him a PM and see what he can do for you.

At a minimum I keep 3 mags per pistol and rotate them in the gun.

I get the vast majority of mine from CDNN sports.

At least 3-4 mags per gun.

Looks like a standard 10round factory mag to me.
What makes you say "it appears to be a full capacity magazine that holds about 13 rounds"????

Why I think the mag is standard capacity - no spacer visible

I own a Sig P226 in 9mm and have both kinds of magazines for it - the standard 15 round version and the Clintonized 10 round versions. The standard 15 round version is a smooth, continuous steel tube right down to the baseplate, like the one shown in the picture from the Ebay auction. The 10 rounders have some sort of spacer in the bottom 1/3 of the magazine, like the ones shown here - first a Mecgar magazine and second a Sig factory magazine:

That may be the case in the 9mm ones, but the key is "9mm".

In the 40/357 mags the spacer is VERY SMALL not large like the one pictured in your post of the 9mm. See the pictures below of a 40/357 10 round mag (top) and a 40/357 12 round mag (bottom):
    10 round-

    12 round-

Pictures can be found here: SigStore on sigarms.com

As you can see, the 40/357 10 round mag has a very small spacer and you can clearly see the same small spacer on the one in the auction. I am 100% sure the mag shown in the auction IS a factory 10 round 40/357 mag, NOT a 12 round.

    Hope this helps, Joe

I think you are right. I was staring at my 9mm mags and didn't realize that the .40 mags were so different.
