    SA-XD spring rod

    Hey Ya'll

As you know I recently purchased an XD .40S&W 4" service pistol

I have not unfortunately been able to get to the range yet. (frothing at the bit to do so though)

BUT,.... One thing that I noticed and am a bit concerned about is that the spring rod that mounts under the barrel and into the front of the slide sticks out the front of the slide about about 1/16-1/8".

Should I be concerned about this? Is the spring going to relax abit after firing several rounds? What are your thoughts? Any of you XD
    owners had the same occurance?

    thanks in advance

Thats Normal they way the gun was designed

Now for the Rumor of why it is like that..

Since it is made in cortia (sp) they said its made like that so you can put it up to someone's body name the head and press and it wont go out of battery.. Im sure that bs and laugh everytime i see it as being the reason its designed like that ... thought ya might like to know

    Ok?... hehe.

I sent the same inquiry to the folks at Springfield-Armory, wonder if that's the response I'll get. It does seem a bit bizarre but with a little thought I reckon it makes some sense.

I just wanted to know that the thing would'nt come apart with the first shot.

    btw its Croatia

    Yeah theyre made like that.

If it bothers you too much, just buy one of Dons Guide rods and spring sets from xdgear.com nad at least make it a shiny protrusion.

    +1 on the DGR.

I have one on my XD. It's a stronger, one-piece rod versus the one that comes from the factory and it looks tacticool!

When I bought my XD .40sc I noticed the same thing. And I asked the same question over at XDtalk.com and got the same response you got. It is normal, nothing to worry about.

I have the original rod in mine still and have put thousands of rounds through it and I have had no problems with it.

By the way, since you are now an XD owner, I would invite you to check out XDtalk.com in addition to combatcarry. I come here every day (it is my home page ) and I go to XDtalk about once or twice a week. It is a great resource for the XD owner.

Once you get to go to the range, you will LOVE that XD.

I put 8000+ rounds through my XD9sc before I sold it. Might just buy it back and shoot it some more.

Well, I just got an e-mail from a Gal at SA.

Sure enough "That is how it is designed, rest assured no reason for concern." How ever she didn't go into the "reason" its's designed that way.
