Interesting discovery on SIG 229 slides

I have had a 229 E2 model for awhile, 40 caliber. Just picked up a 229 Enhanced Elite 9mm yesterday. I thought I was a pretty shrewd guy since I already have a Kramer MSP and a Sparks VMII for the E2 40. Well, not so shrewd after all. The Elite fits in either of those holsters about as well as it would in an Uncle Mike nylon. Considering that both holsters are boned for 229s, I found this a bit odd. So I broke out my calipers. Found that the slide width at the top of the slide on an E2 model (40/357) mikes out at 1.040, while the Elite (9mm) mikes out at .910. That's quite a difference. My brilliance fails once again, with the usual results. I know I can bend the mouth of the Sparks, but don't like the idea of bending it in and out, depending on which 229 I grab. Looks like I gotta call the boys at Sparks and settle in for another wait. Again.

weird that the sig C-3 don't fit 1911 holster.....
top of the slide is ever so slightly squared.

so, why does Sig make such good guns a taste bigger where its not really needed
.....smaller would fit; but bigger is, well....rather unholsterish

I'm gonna think that the 40 slide is a tad bigger because the barrel is slightly larger in the 40 than the 9mm.

I think with the Versa MaxII it won't matter much once you have it on inside your pants.

    Nope... it's the model difference.

229's have the same slide dimensions between calibers... sans the barrel hole.
