I have a set of VZ 320's on one 1911 and a set of Altamont "crockback" rosewood grips on the other.

Pachmayr is my choice for both looks and feel on my 1911 style shooters.

Both of my Baer’s wear grips from Carbon Creations, I’ve been pretty pleased with them for about 4 years now:

Carbon Grips, Maker of Quality Gun Grips For Kimber 1911, Colt 1911, 1911 Smith & Wesson, Springfield 1911, Caspian 1911 and more.

I have some VZs on my Colt Commander. Attractive and grippy, but rough on tender skin.

Take a look at 10-8, Hilton Yam has a nice G10 grip with a "scoop" out of it by the mag release. Pretty cool also.[/B]

I like the set of Crimson Trace grips on my 1911.

Two approaches - cocobolo and Alumagrips, both thin

I have a number of 1911s with a variety of grips, but for a carry 1911 to go into a holster and be as thin as possible, I like the thin grip panels in either checkered cocobolo wood or aluminum. These both are comfortable and adhere well to my hand when I draw the gun. Here are photos of the same gun, a Kimber Pro CDP, with these two types of grip panels:

I have a set of thin VZ Grips with the Ed Brown bobtail cut on my Kimber Raptor & just love the feel. They feel as abrasive as they look, but the funny thing is I can run a couple of hundred rounds of full strength hardball through that Kimber & my ungloved hands are no more the worst for it!

I have a few different sets of grips for my 1911 - ivory looks nice, too slippery. Checkered cocobolo looks nice - slippery when hands are sweaty. VZ Canvas Gator grips - look fine, excellent grip, comfortable to carry. Once I got them I stopped looking - they are great for me. I can't imagine something in aluminum or wood would ever work for me except for on a range-only gun.
