    Update: The Heizer Double Tap

Heres the latest on the Heizer Double Tap, complete with video. Posted by Guns.Com
    Check it out.

The Heizer DoubleTap has turned out to be one of the most anticipated firearms of 2012. This 21st-century double-barreled derringer has wowed people around the world, combining the novelty of a modern aerospace engineering take on the two-shot pocket pistol with the simple truth that this is one of the most concealable handguns ever made in centerfire chamberings.

I won't lie it's a nifty gun, looks to be very rugged and of course reliable. A good backpacking/throw-it-in-the-tackle-box sort of gun...but not at the prices I have seen so far.

I like this comment below the video; "(Not pictured, ice, painkillers, and hand-loaded low-power cartridges.)"

But seriously, I would expect nothing less. Obviously not a range gun, but an absolute-emergency-get-the-heck-off-of-me gun. Shooting comfort would be the least of the concerns in that scenario.

I still like the concept for use as a BUG. The price would have to come way down, though.

    From the article:

"The DoubleTap is chambered in .45 ACP or 9mm and and will have many different configurations to choose from. In both calibers it will be available with or without ported barrels, with an aluminum (12-ounce) or titanium (14-ounce) frame, and in standard black or iPhone white. (That's what Heizer calls it—iPhone white.)"

I find it hard to believe that Apple would give them permission to call their white "iPhone white." I guess white guns are the new "I'm a good guy!" color...

Sorry, but my fully loaded LCP weighs 12 oz and has 7 rounds on tap, and a fast reload - and it costs much less.

As I've said before, this will appeal to the "I won't carry anything other than a .45" crowd. For them, it's the ideal BUG, I suppose.

My hand is cringing just looking at that. Be like shooting a .45 from a pack of gum.

I would like to see it shot with only one hand by one of the pro lady shooters or a small average guy. Not many will have time if you need a small pistol like that to bow in to it and shot with a double hand grip. I to would rather carry a 380 with some BB ammo in it if I had to have a small ultra-lite. PF-9 weight the same heizer in aluminum.

Am I reading it wrong, or is that the weight without the barrel(s)?

You may not be able to buy one yet but the hype continues. Heizer marketing is going after the ladies! Witness the cool placement ad in the 17 May episode of Person of Interest, where the bad gal fired a non-ported DoubleTap at close range through an open car window at a front seat passenger. She blanked her single-handed with little or no muzzle rise. Kudos to the prop department!

For the same weight you could carry a Ruger LCR or Smith J Frame and have 5 rounds on tap instead of the two. The Heizer is flat......you have to give it that, but I'd rather have larger capacity in a major caliber for the weight trade-off.

5/8 of an inch. Thats pretty thin really.

I've been thinking...how many of you would buy that if it were incorporated with an "I phone" ?

Think about it. A two shot .45 that doubles as a phone. With the technology that we possess today, its doable. Or, if you didnt like that idea, why not have a holster that looks just like the I phone? Stick it on your belt and it would be hidden in plain sight. Now thats an idea.

I think the gun-phone has already been done. IIRC, it was a .22. With my luck, I'd tap the screen and shoot myself in the foot...

I also think the Taurus TCP comes with a belt holster-pouch, for the "hidden in plain sight" thing.

Thanks! Mr. HotGuns - I have been waiting for an actual video of the gun being shot for a while now.
I have my eye on that gun as a person that has regretted for years not having purchased a Semmerling way back when they were available at a steep but cheap price compared to today.

Now I'm glad that I couldn't locate a Heizer to buy because I like the recent improvements they have made to it.
I'm seriously considering the Titanium non-ported version if I can find one.

I think a belt holster pouch gives you a lot more than just hidden in plain sight. It's like a joke that only you're in on.
