Suggestions for 4in barrel under $550.(Not Glock)

I would like some suggestions for a 4in barrel semi auto that is under $550 for daily carry. Will entertain all calibers larger than 9mm. Will not carry a glock though. They are excellent guns, but I don't like the grip angle.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Springfield XD, available in 9mm, .357sig, .40SW, 45ACP, .45GAP (If for some reason you want 4 fewer rounds of a more expensive caliber than .45ACP), 4 and 5" barrels.

9 and 40 are also available in a 3" with a shortened grip--Wife and I both carry the 3" .40. I liked hers so much, I bought one for myself.

My friend has the 3in. in .40cal. I don't like the fact that the grip doesn't come all the way to the bottom of my hand. I am however looking at the service model in .40cal and then buying a 9mm barrel for practice.

Springfield XDs, CZ 75 Compact, CZ P01, Taurus 24/7, Springfield Commander GI 1911.

Are used guns out of the question. If not I'd look at used Sigs or H&Ks.

Used is perfectly fine. I would LOVE an H&K, but I have never seen a used one around here.

BTW, the St. Louis County PD just switched to Sigs. So I might get one anyway in a few months if I get accepted into the academy.

I bought a Sig P-229 9mm w/NS for only $10 more than your budget. Included 4 13 round mags. Was NIB.

    Shop around.

Why under $550? Can you save up a little longer? I know my life is well worth my pricey $600 -$800 guns.

I can spend more if I need to, but if I don't set a budget, I will end up w/ a $1800 carry gun. I tend to go a little crazy w/ guns. I don't own a single shotgun under $1200 if that gives you any idea.

On top of what I said earlier, I would prefer a higher capacity. At least 10 round mags. I already have a 5in Remington Rand 1911, but it is a little big and a little too heavy. I am tall, but I am really skinny. I can't hide the 1911.

If you cannot hide a 1911, a double stack (thicker gun )will probably be harder to conceal. I found my SA 4" champ hides much better than the PT 140 3" barrel I used to carry.

Makes sense to me. I don't think the wife would be too happy though. Maybe, if I can find one on sale I can say "But honey, it was on sale."

Actually, I am trying to get into the police academy now and I would like to be able to pay cash and not use credit. I don't make a lot of money right now. Once I get out of the academy, it is open season (on buying guns anyway).

    Beretta PX4 in .40 caliber

I have handled but not shot the new Beretta PX4 polymer framed pistol, and it is a beautiful gun with great ergonomics. The .40 caliber has a 14 round magazine and has received good reviews:

    Beretta PX4 for $500
