Do have a saperate home defense gun from your carry gun?

I was wondering if this is the case with a lot of people. I am not refering to a shotgun either. I know that id the best choice for home defense. I am referring to handguns. I generally carry a Glock 27. But I was thinking of getting a Glock 23 or 22 for the house. Being a dedicated home defense weapon, I can leave a good rail light on it at all times. It will be close to my carry gun as they will have the same caliber, Glock trigger, and feel in my hand. Any thoughts?

I say go for it. Another reason to buy a new gun too. I use my G19 for carry and HD

I typically carry my xd40sc and use it for HD also. I figure it will be sufficient to get me to my 12 ga shotgun.

Not really. I pretty much keep what I carry available for immediate use on the homefront. My Ithaca 37 Riot/POLICE is my main HD firearm though even though you are not counting shottys.

I usually carry my Ruger LCP , but close at home and OCing in the yard my Ruger SP101 (which used to be my primary carry). The Mossberg and AR15 are in the bedroom closet.

I've got a Sig-220 that's a little heavy (for me) to lug around. It makes a dandy nightstand gun though. .45 ACP and the night sights are large and bright enough to make it easy to find in the dark.

Right now it's my Glock 19 since I sold my Winchester 1300 Defender.

That is what I do. I have a XD .45 setup with a laser light combo. My carry is a g19

Yes. I OC (in my house and on my property) a 44 mag (hey, its what I like and makes really nasty holes in things) but my away firearm is the M-1911 (easier to hide) which also makes nasty holes in things.

Going back and forth is not an issue. You either have trained and know your firearms, and how to employ them, or you have not, and should go out and train some more.

I mostly carry a Kel tec pf9 or a g26. The G26 would make an acceptable night stand gun but no rail for a light. I keep an XD 45 5'' loaded as a nightstand gun. It's not much of a gun for ccw but a 5'' barreled .45 with 14 rounds on tap seems about perfect for a home defence weapon. I've never been much for hanging extra stuff to "tactify" my guns but a light on a dedicated house gun makes sence and I do think I'll make use of that rail on the xd and mount a light.

I carry several different firearms but I have an M&P .45 that is set up for my house gun. It never leaves the bedroom except for the range and cleaning.

If I were going to have a dedicated handgun for HD duties, I'd get a full size model - regardless of caliber you decide to go with, etc. So in your case, I'd get the G22 over the G23 (my EDC). I believe the larger gun is going to have less perceived recoil and I don't know about you - but I think a bigger gun makes it easier to place rounds on target. I plan on making my AR my primary HD gun but at the same time, I currently carry my EDC when I'm at home - or its really close by, etc. In the future, I plan on getting a G20 and designating it to be my "nightstand" gun. In other words, the G20 is the one I'm going to grab when I hear a bump in the night until I can retrieve the AR.

I think there's something to say for staying with a platform you're familiar with so in your case, a Glock in the 40 S&W flavor is the natural choice given that you use this platform for your EDC. IMO, though, I think the G27 shoots different than my G23. The trigger is the same but to me the 27 seems to be snappier than the 23. I guess what I'm trying to say is; if you're getting a G22 or G23 so you won't have to train with the new gun, you might be making a mistake. If the G27, for example, was my EDC and I was going to get a G23 for HD duties, I would still train with the G23. The learning curve might not be as great between the two models than they would be if you were getting a non-Glock model in a different caliber but I believe there is one nevertheless. I hope what I'm saying is making sense.
