Perhaps as suggested a rifle at the ready as well as light on outside, off inside might help discourage and tip the odds better in your favor if it ever did come to a confrontation.

Sounds like Vermont is a great place to live, or at least one of the safer places in these United States. I have never been that far Northeast, but willing to try something new.
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks for that, Celtic Pride! Send me up some gumbo fixin's and I'll send you down some maple syrup...!
At home: my AK-47.

I know, you had different choices, but for night duty here's my choice...I believe a house gun needs some handy illumination other than the Surefire held in hand.
Given your choices, the 229 seems to top the list; larger grip for handling, more capacity....don't know if you have night sights, but unless it's got a rail (229R?) I know you don't have a light mounted.
Yup, Jimmy, you are right. I chose the 229 for the reasons you mentioned, along with greater familiarity with it having bought the 239, which does have night sights, only days earlier. Other posters in this thread had it figured out as well. It was an interesting real world exercise!
