Talk me out of a Sig P238. Are there any better front pocket carry options?

Well, I've had a Ruger LCP. I got rid of it for the horrible trigger and every now and then I would inadvertently hit the magazine release while trying to fire rapidly. Very minimalist sights. Joy to carry.

I also had a Kahr CM9. It shot great, good sights, trigger was pretty decent, reliability was so-so. But I could only carry it in cargo shorts. I never could 100% trust it but it was working great after all the issues got worked out with the magazines.

Not interested in the Taurus TCP or any Kel-Tec product.

Seems the Ruger LCR and S&W 442 would be even bigger than the Kahr CM9.

I guess the only other question is which version to get? Nitron, Rosewood, or SAS.

had a LCP, traded in after 300 rounds downrange for a P238 Desert (plus some change).

less recoil, sights that work, and I seem much more likely to practice with it. my hands can survive more than 30 rounds (LCP).

This is just my opinion but there's two things I don't like about the 238 for pocket carry. This doesn't apply JUST to the 238 though, it would apply to any gun I was considering for pocket carry.

-It's single action. I want a long double action pull for a pocket gun.

    -It's got a thumb safety.
-It is a seriously scary thought that there are subsets of American society that think being intellectual is a BAD thing...

I owned one of the first P238's and that was my problem. Well in truth, that was it's problem. I believe that they're much more reliable now. And the platform is perfect. I've put 100 rounds through my in a single trip, no issues, no discomfort. I'm not going to try to talk you out of it but I'll say a couple of things. My choice for a 380 was that Sig, nothing else. But I was never comfortable with the caliber. The Sig started with issues, went to the factory and then went hundreds of rounds flawlessly. Problems started again with ftf's. New springs, cleaning lubing cleaning more springs.....it's gone. The 380, any 380, is subject to more failures than the average auto. When I added my concern with the capability of the round....I went back to a j frame.

All that said, I think that Sig is the sexiest, best built 380 out there. Good luck.

Love my Bodyguard 380, long trigger pull but doable. It has the safety, but is off when carried. Good sights, accurate, and fits my hand well for a mousegun. I have found it to be perfectly reliable to date. Price is not too bad either. Carry all day in my front pocket, Mika holster.

Why would anyone try to talk someone out of a P238?

An intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or oven spray, but if shot with a .357 Magnum will get angry and kill you.

Because for pocket carry there ARE "better" options in that the single action nature of the P238 and like kind lend itself to potential misfires due to pocket lint, fuzzies, dust bunnies etc. building up in the hammer channel during the course of a carry period.

Note that I said potential issue, if you keep up on checking the gun when convenient and make sure that the firing pin is not obscured, you're good to go.
