Idiot with a Sig needs help.

I need help from anyone with Sig experience. I have a 220 and I wanted to switch the mag release from the left side to the right side. I wanted to see if I could manipulate the release with my trigger finger. I have the Sig Armorers videos and it is a simple endeavor, provided you don't do one thing. Guess what, I did that one thing. The small retaining pin that goes on the textured side must go in a certain way. When the pin is put in the wrong way the mag catch gets locked in too far and you cant get it out.

So thats where I'm at right now and I not only feel like an idiot but I want to get kicked in the head by a horse too. The way I see it I have two options. 1) I can send it back to the factory and maybe get charged a fee or 2) I can drill out the textured side and the pin will fall out, I'll order a replacement and try not to be make the same mistake again.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Ryan - never tried that but - hopefully if Class3NH sees this thread he can maybe comment for you - he is working for SIG and probably has some thoughts.

Best thing to do is send it back to SIG,,they'll punch it out and make sure a new part fits ,,and at the same time you can have them flip it for you

As stated above, search on the sig forum. Someone had this problem and made a small tool, I think it was a thin piece of feeler gage that allowed them to remove the release. Otherwise it needs to be sent to Sig to repair.

I think I'm just going to send it in to Sig and have them do a trigger job while its in there. I was seriously considering having them smooth out the trigger and since it already being sent in why not get it done. Plus I don't want to risk damaging the slide, and with my luck thats exactly what would happen.

Consider...if you have shot it quite a bit...doesn't Sig also have some sort of "rebuild" tune up, they replace springs, roll pins, all that? I'm for getting everything done you could possibly want done while it's there, what with the cost of shipping a pistol these days.

The tune up is included in the trigger job. I should have a pretty svelt Sig after this so maybe my fubar mistake will have a great end result. For an extra $20 I can have the barrel recrowned. I don't know if I need it and I'll look into that tomorrow.

    Send it to Sig.

One of our left hand officers did this and our armorer
had a heck of a time getting it back in.

Also said he will never attempt it again.

Good luck, And please don't drill it out........

OK everybody, I have great news. I went to Sears a couple of hours ago and bought a feeler guage. I narrowed the size of a couple of the very thin guages with kitchen sheares and started to mess around with it. Less than 5 minutes later I pushed on the mag catch and it came out.

I so glad I tried the trick. Saved me alot of money I was putting towards a duty gear, untility HAK, and even a Rohrbaugh. It was going to cost me around $170 to get it fixed if I had shipped it the way you are legally supposed to

Congratulations. Glad it worked out. Shipping a firearm is a major hassle.

For someone who isn't as mechanically inclined as he thinks he is it was really quite simple. Just a little fidgiting and holding in the curse words was all it took.
