    Speaking of Taurus and 1911s

So I saw different discussions on Taurus pistols and 1911s in general (when isn't there a 1911 discussion going on?) and that brought to mind the Taurus 1911 that came out recently. For the price it looks like a great gun to buy but quality is always an issue. So, has anyone fired, bought, used one of these yet?

There have been quite a few reports on these in the last month or so here and at 1911forum.com. Seem like a steal of a deal to me if you can get your hands on one. If I had the money I would probably have one by now. I have heard of some minor issues but most seem to be very good guns. Especially for $500.

Good test article in August issue of American Rifleman. Seems like it might be a real steal.

I have not fired one, but last Saturday when I was trying to buy a 1911. I handled one. It really felt like a 1911. Fit and finish were outstanding. I went back and handled it two more times before I bought the Springfield. I have second guessed myself several times this week. The problem was that this dealer was the only one who had one and he had only one. Until more hit the market the price is going to stay up close to MSRP. I expect I'll end up looking at one a lot closer toward the end of the year when my favorite dealer gets a couple in. I don't know how they shoot, but everything about the fit, finish, and feel appear to be top quality. If that is any indication they should be a good pistol.

    Tarus 1911

I was talking to a local dealer here in the dayton who has sold four of them. All of them were taken into the range and no one has had any failures out of the box. I had the chance to examine one from the showcase. It was very nicely put together. They seem to be very accurate from what the few people that have purchased them are saying.

The slide to frame fit was far better than I would expect for the price range. The barrel fitup was very tight. The slide action was smooth. The trigger was far better than I expected after reading the article in the American Rifleman, it was probably in the 5 to 5.5 pound range and had nor creep or over travel. The shop owner said that his Tarus rep stated the reason for the delay in initial deliveries was due to getting the trigger better before releasing the units for delivery.

He was also advised that Tarus is currently buying their way into the 1911 market in the US with the current price and that units in the near future will be priced higher. At this time they seem to be a best buy so do not expect the current price to hold forever.

    Cool

I've had one for 6 weeks now about 600 rounds thru it and NO failures of any kind. I do not care for the finish but I plan to have it blued at a later date, I bought it for a range gun and to keep in the nightstand and it now resides there. I have detail stripped it and a Kimber side by side and it appears the parts will interchange and I have done that with a few of them and function fired it that way without any problems. Bud White: we are only a few miles apart if you want to shoot mine you are welcome to, I shoot at Top Gun, Firing Line and Wolverine on a regular basis PM me if interested.

I would agree that if your going to buy one grab them up while you can (at a good price of course) because I think they will be much higher in the future. I mean these guns offer everything from 30dpi checkering on the frontstrap, MSH(metal not plastic) , and under the trigger guard to Straight 8 Heine sights, ambi safety, etc. The first examples I have heard of on the 1911 forums have sold for under $500!!! That is unbelievable. I just hope I have a little extra cash when the stainless model comes out.

My friend is a Taurus Rep. He told me that Taurus has hired more gunsmiths and are paying more atention to qualety control. He thinks the new 1911 is a good buy for the money. This is not because he is a Rep. He Reps for H.K. and a few others. He never liked Taurus in the past. He has changed his minde about them lately.
