I don't have a lot of experience with many different models to be able to match one with your specific characteristics and lifestyle. However, I do love the hell out of my XD and would always recommend it to others. It's a quality piece, very easy to acquire the site picture, comfortable to shoot and very reliable.

I personally like the feel of the XDM. The grip is more aggressive and for me the ergonomics are better.

In the SA XD word I've got an XDM 4.5" 40 & XD9 SC. If I had to choose again, I think I would have gotten the XDM in 5.25" because I mainly use it for target / comp. I've been surprised at how amazing the XD9SC shoots but wish the grip was like the XDM or even XDS. I'll probably stick the rubber talon grips on them or something similar. Should SA come out with an XDS in .40 I'll probably switch my carry gun to that because I prefer the more aggressive grips.

I have a very specific question for you xdsc .40 owners, or guys that have shot them. I have had my heart set on the sc .40 for awhile, but I've read where about 50% of the people say the recoil is too much. how much different will it be from the 9mm?

50% seems quite high. While it will have more recoil than that of a 9mm, I don't think I would define it as 'too much'. Some will say its 'snappy'. But I think the largest part of their concern is with follow up shots. They may take a fraction of a second longer to line up. With practice it'll improve, but, arguably may not ever be as fast as a 9mm.

I've been shooting .40 for quite a while with both sub-compacts and full sized guns. After a short while, its a non-issue.

I would hold out for a Glock.

I wouldn't. I was considering one for a while...then I visited GT. Despite their 'perfection' they are just like any other arms manufacturer (including Springfield)...they too can have issues. Get what YOU want.

I don't see that big of a price difference between the two. But the XD seems the be a better fit for me.

Not me. Each person is different of course, but I have not yet found a Glock that feels "right" in my hand. My XDm felt "right" from the very beginning. Mine is an XDm 9mm 3.8 Compact, and I really like the way it feels and shoots. I'm very happy with it and would not ever think of trading it for a Glock.

    Each to their own!!
    Cheers!

I ended up buying the XD .40 SC, I did give Glock a fair shot, I put 50 rounds down range on a Glock 27, but the XD just felt better in my hands. But, the wife might come home today with a Glock 19. Waiting......

I don't own a lot a polymer pistols, but I'm very happy with my XD40 4" service model.
FOR ME, it points more naturally than something like a Glock, has a much better trigger than something like a Glock and is just as reliable and accurate as other pistols in the same class.

Here's a pic of my XD sporting a Glock GTL-21
