Same here in Miami - was at a show looking for a PPS three weeks ago. Nobody had the PPS but they all wanted to sell me the Shield. Go figure!

Thats funny because I was doing the same thing, but found a pps 9mm at the third stop. Loving it too. Evrybody had shields, but if someone in the Houston area cant find one, I can tell them who to call and locate one.

I like my 40 pretty well and it's still growing on me. Would I wait for months? I doubt it, even knowing what I know about the Shield (which is all good btw). Pick up a pocket holster for your snubbie and roll until you can get the next thing. Just my .02. Of course, my advice is cheap since I was able to scratch that itch. Good luck.

That's what I did. I couldn't be happier with the baby Glock to go with my 19 and 17. In the end trying to find an unavailable gun with less capacity, a longer grip, and that was unable to use all the mags I have already wasn't worth the percieved gains of slimming down a fraction of an inch.

So I called Smith and Wesson. I asked them about Shield availability. After a deathly long silence, the guy said he gets like 5 calls per day asking the same question. They are making 300-400/day with a backlog of 40,000. Hmmmmm. I am 12th on the list. I guess I will be waiting a while.
Good for you for making this post! Man, if all they are producing is 300-400 a day that doesn't speak very well for their manufacturing capacity and/or their marketing acumen.

Just keep searching. Waiting for a single place to get them is probably a very hit or miss proposition. I lucked out and someone posted one on our local forum because they didn't like it for pocket carry which is why they picked it up. I got it for $400 from them. And my wife loves it and I do too (I want one too - in .40 cal). So, to me it would be worth the wait.

Buy it!!! Sell it to someone for a profit if you don't want it for yourself.

I'd be more worried if they made 10,000 a day, lol.

New S&W marketing ad - "We hand craft each of our Shields", lol.

EMP, how about contacting a few of the larger, nationwide sporting goods chain stores (ie, Dick's) and have them check their inventory. Many might have this store-by-store visibility. If they'll sell and ship a firearm, then you've got your in-stock Shield.

Failing that, perhaps some of the folks who've posted about available Shield pistols in their area could PM you with the name/phone of the shop that has them in stock.

from comparing both the shield and the pps, side by side...... they seem so much alike... pps are also hard to find... but not as bad as the shield...

I got mine when they first came out. I was a the shop when he opened his first one. He handed it to me to check out, I never have it back. It's been a great little weapon.

I had a chance to compare a Shield and a Walther PPS side by side last month. Went with the PPS.

I just passed one up at a local mom and pop gun shop for $429. I almost bought it just because they are so hard to come by, but didn't think it would be a good idea if I came home with another.

I dont know much about firearms manufacturing or who does what but I do know that Smith & Wesson does (or did at one point) outsource manufacturing of thier polymer frames.

Back when I was in school for tool and dye making I interviewd for a QC job at a small injection moldong factory in Deep River, Connecticut. Thier biggest client was S&W.

Outsourcing may or may not have some play in the backlog and low production quantity.

Note: I never took the job so I am not offering this information in violation of any sort of hush hush agreement
