    Glock 19 - gen 3 or 4?

Went to LGS today looking. He showed me a gen 4 for $571 out the door, or a gen 3 with CT for $575.

The CT has a "neat factor", but not really a must have.

That being said, which do you guys recommend.

    Thanks,

I like the rear-activated CT made for the Gen4 better than the front-activated one made for the 3rd Generation, but for even money, I would take the 3.

I prefer the gen 3, but have never fired a gen 4. Gen 3's are good to go.

I wouldn't bother with the crimson trace, in my opinion it's a novelty.

I very much like the Gen 3's and their reliability cannot be questioned. I think for my next one though I will try and pick up a Gen 4. It seems the bugs have been corrected.

I have a gen 3 and love it.

Bought it when the Gen 4s were still sorting out bugs, and I have no experience with those weapons.

I personally wouldn't bother with the CT. I have CT grips for my 642, but took them off because they bugged me.

I just researched the same question, and two days ago I bought the Gen 3. I think the differences that you can actually feel are in the grip and the mag release. The 4 has a grip texture that I would call "rougher". Either you like that or you don't. I preferred the smoother grip of the 3. You can also beef up the backstrap of the 4; that didn't matter to me as I have rather small hands. The 4 also gives the option of an ambidextrious mag release, but if you're not left-handed, who cares? The mag release button on the 4 is bigger, but I saw that as making it easier to hit by accident.

Other than the above, I've shot both, and for all practical purposes, they worked the same. I have the CT on another gun, and I think it's basically a sort of gee-gaw. I don't think I'd pay extra for it, and I'm not sure I'd want it if it were free.

So it's not really whether one is better than the other; it's really what suits you the best. Hope my experience helps in your decision.

Bought a brand new Gen 3 last fall. 3 out of 5 cases went right between the eyes. Sent it back to Glock. They fixed it. When I got it back, only 3 out of 10 (an improvement) went right between the eyes. Offloaded it and got a new Gen 4 last month. Much better. And, they feel better in the hand.

Get a Gen 4. Just my opinion.

I would pick a Gen 3 over a Gen 4 but I like the Gen 2's the most.

I'd go with the Gen 4. I had a choice several months ago and I picked the Gen 4 because of the grip and the backstraps.

I have a gen 3 19 and a gen 4 17...and honestly, there's nothing about either one that I could recommend over the other. I carry the 19 more, and I am probably going to soon dedicate the 17 to a competition gun. But that isn't because of generational differences...just based on size differences and suitability for each of the guns.

No reason to get a gen 3 these days. The gen 4 is now the best glock ever made. Anyone who tells you otherwise just has not upgraded yet.
