Heizer Defense DoubleTap- legitimate BUG or novelty?
I just checked out the website and watched some Youtube videos on the Heizer Defense DoubleTap in 45 and 9mm ACP. It seems like kind of a modern version and upgrade to the old Derringer and it seems like it could be a simple, lightweight and effective 2-shot 45ACP BUG (there are 2 extra rounds in a moon clip stored in the grip) but they are so new I wondered if anyone has had a chance to see or use one in actual practice.
Any thoughts?

No I've not shot or handled one, but according to the review in this month's Guns & Ammo, it's a high quality, very well made, well thought out BUG that seems to be pretty darn accurate as well. It seems a little on the pricey side for me; but, I guess if you want it ported and in titanium you can pay for it. I do like the fact that for a couple hundred dollars extra you can get the 9mm barrels as well and, according to the article in about ten seconds you can swap out barrels and be shooting 9mm. Pretty cool and it's a little easier on the wallet.

Seems legit to me. I'd pack it with FMJ and be fine with it.

Looks legit but the above reflects my thoughts
I don't carry a gun to look for or start a fight. I carry one to finish a fight I never wanted to be in.

Price is way too high I would rather have an XDS for that type of money.

Yeah... for that kind of money, I'd pick up a Walther P22 and an extra mag or two...
It may be a .22, but at least I'll have more than two shots...

For me any two-shot derringer would be a novelty item.

Novelty; to many better, more cost effective choices. There'll always be someone who loves any gun and argues it's merit but this one doesn't even seem to be a nice novelty gun. I'd feel guilty carrying it knowing I passed by better options just because I liked it. I suspect folks who do buy it will loose their enthusiasm for it over time. I've always wanted one of the NAA .22 derringers/revo's because I think they're cute but there are guys who swear by them for "deep concealment".
Anyway, can't blame them for trying to come up with a product to sell so they can make a living.

seems like a lot of money and the titanium model weights only one ounce less than my P-238 though it is somewhat smaller.

This is an incredibly innovative firearm that has had some major changes made to it since its early prototype development.
Revision 8 Production Model Improvements and Enhancements:
Front and rear low profile no snag sights
Melanite finish on stainless steel barrel assemblies Rockwell 65
Mil-Std CeraKote finish on Titanium frames and Hard Anodizing on Aluminum
Lanyard pin on rear of grip
Serrations on the trap door compartment
A stronger needle bearing instead of ball bearing in the double action trigger system
A channel machined into the spare round compartment to secure rounds
Squared off the front of the 1911 style trigger for better ergonomics
Enlarged the HD pattern on the integral grips for more texture
Enlarged the rear palm swell area of the frame to reduce recoil climb
Simplified the ejector system for reliability
Engineered a “safe” hammer position to enhance safety
Additionally we have worked with major manufactures in the industry including DeSantis, Pelican and First Spear to introduce an exclusive line of accessories for the DoubleTap™
