I pocket carry in cargo shorts Kahr CM9 love it less than 20 oz loaded with 7 rounds of 9MM. Also works good in IWB Holster. Kahr has been 100% at range.

Far as subcompact goes, I personally carry (and would of course suggest):

    Glock 33 .357sig
    Beretta PX4 in .40

Never had any problems whatsoever with either one and they conceal great. Both are within your price range as well.

Maybe you should consider a snubbie like an LCR or a J frame.

I am partial to my G26 but if the thickness is important to you I would look and the S&W Shield.
