While looking for a Kel-Tec P3AT, I came across a Beretta Tomcat in 32 ACP. Has anyone ever shot one? It was about twice as heavy as the Kel-Tec and a Little bigger. What I want in a pocket gun (any gun really) is that it will go bang each and every time I pull the trigger. The two carry guns I have now have never failed (with the exception of one ammo failure) after Hundreds (Taursus 605) and thousands (Makarov 380) of rounds shot out of them. Does anyone have experience with these two. I know alot of people swear by the Kel-Tec but since the pocketgun I buy will be my only carry gun at times I want something extremly reliable. Any help you can provide would be great.
My girlfriend carries one. She had a plain Tomcat that had several hundred rounds through it, and traded it in on the one with the Big Dot night sight. Several more hundred through that with no function problems. The night sight died within a few days of buying it, but I had it repalced by Beretta within 10 days for free. I did the "Flyer Wire" modification to the magazines, but never had a rimlock. She carries Cor-Bon in it. Most powerful and most accurate load tested. It's only a .32 but at least she carries it when she'll leave the Glock behind
I have a Tomcat, and carry it as a backup or primary occasionally. Have had it about 5 years, no problems, always works; I carry it in a pocket holster.
Thanks guys,
That's 2 for one against, not enough to win my money yet. I liked the feel of the Tomcat but didn't know anyone who had one. Most of my friends who carry pocket guns carry Kel-Tec I just have a thing against plastic pistols. I'll keep looking.
I have a Kel-Tec P32, I like it as a pocket gun. At the same time I have on my to buy list a Tomcat for my wife. Her work does not allow her to carry on her person because of the business dress she must wear. There are times she could, but everyday the pistol would be in a different location. A pants suit one day, a dress the next, and a skirt and blouse the day after. We want to get her a small always pistol, but she does not like a double action only and sometimes the slides on the small pistols are hard to rack. She also likes having a safety. The Tomcat meets her requirements. Tilt forward to load the first round, traditional single action, and a safety.
I have talked to a number of people who have Tomcats and most find them to be very reliable. As with anything mechanical occasionally you will get one that is bad and the Tomcat has that happen too. When we get one for Leah there will be several hundred rounds fired before she starts to depend on it.
If you are going to be carrying this gun as a BUG I would say that the Kel-Tecs are fine for that purpose. If you are planning to carry the pocket pistol as your primary weapon for any significant period I would look at Seecamp and North American Arms and if you can afford it Rohrbaugh.
I had one. It was quickly commandeered for use by my old lady. So, far about 350 rounds with no FTF/FTE. I find it rather accurate and easy to shoot. It's about the only auto mousegun with a single action trigger pull. On that note, I guess I'll have to buy another one if I ever want to carry one again.
The flip up barrel feature makes it a breeze to clear as well. Which is nice.
I used to have one too, and my father still carries one. Ours were the .22LR, not the .32 though. Great little gun. I loved the flip-up barrel, and the SA trigger pull. Mine had some issues feeding the first round out of the mag if it was loaded to capacity. I ended up just having to leave that last round out, and then it worked great.
I have no experience with any other small guns, but I liked that one, and if I decide to get another mousegun at some point, I'll probably look into the .32.
I just got a SS Tomcat 3032. I like it, it's never jammer but I would sure like to have some trigger work done on it. The first DA pull is awful and even the following SA action could be cleaned up. Anyone know of anybody that will work on them? I can't find anyone.
I like my Tomcat. Got the model with wood grips. There's been some internet lore about cracking slides, but I understand the newer versions have modifications to correct prior issue. I prefer the extra weight and 32 caliber for my intended purpose, an off-hand gun, pocket holster, probably very close range gun. The Keltecs and similar polymer 32/380 pistols were just too thin and light for me.
Got a wide slide tomcat with wood grips. Shoots great and my girlfriend just loves it. I would not hesitate to buy another one. I would probably buy the Inox, because that's the one she likes over my blued gun.
