Shot 9mm through a .40

I went shooting with a buddy today. He has a Glock 23 (.40) and I have a Glock 19. (In fact I sold him the G23 and used the money to purchase a G19). They look almost identical.

Since the gun was new, he wanted to shoot my G19. I loaded up a few magazines, picked up what I thought was my G19 and handed them to him. He proceeded to shoot and it malfunctioned on every round. Knowing that Glock doesn't make guns that ever malfunction (), I noticed that gun looked like the G23. I stopped him, examined the gun and sure enough, he was shooting his G23. The G23 did fire several rounds of 9mm, although it was a struggle to chamber the next round.

I am hoping we did not damage his gun. He fired normal .40 caliber ammo through it and it still seemed to perform flawlessly, but I am going to give Glock a call, just in case.

Lol, there was just a thread with a video about a guy doing this. How many rounds of 9mm did he fire?

Chances are, the gun is fine. If it didn't explode, you probably didn't damage anything. The 9mm bullets just bounce around the barrel a little. I wouldn't recommend it, but Youtube idiots have proven it doesn't usually hurt a Glock.

Nah it should be okay. This happens periodically at USPSA matches, and I have yet to see it damage the gun. The brass doesn't are so well, and the bullets kind of roll out the end, but they do fire. Should be fine.

Maybe 3 or 4 before we discovered what the problem was.

Thats pretty impressive that it still sort of worked. Anyone brave enough to try with other brand names?

Now we can have a dishwasher safe underwater Glock in the all new 9mm/.40, no conversion nessecarry.

Been there done that. Most likely you will be just fine. I did it with a G19 and G23

A guy brought his 40 cal pistol to our "g" licsense qualification and couldn't figure out why he was shooting so poorly with so many FTL's and FTF's until the instructor saw he was using a 40 cal. This was after the practice and first qualifying round. Embarrasing for the instructor with so many eyes rolling but funny as hell.

That's the first time it happened to me in 18 years of shooting. Sounded like a squib. Shook me up pretty badly after I figured out what happened, but no damage to the 1911.

Going back and forth between a Beretta 92 and a 1911. Since then I always make sure ALL the ammo is off the bench before I pull up another caliber.

I did it with my buddy's Beretta 96; grabbed one of my 92 mags by mistake.

I was also present when a buddy put .44mags through another friend's 100 year old .45 Colt SAA. Fortunately, they were fairly mild loads, and there was no damage...Well, no damage beyond feeling INCREDIBLY stupid.

Amazing how big of a keyhole a 240gr bullet makes.

I still have one of the cases as a reminder to ALWAYS check the ammo before loading.
